So I bought Penelope a "Corgi" sized crate and she's too big for it. Really, she is just too long for it. She looks like a corgi pretzel. I bought her the next size up and it's huge! She fits length wise but it looks silly how tall the crate is. I just hope she doesn't go to the bathroom in it. She has lots of extra room now so we'll see.

To make an adjustable puppy crate:
Our crate is the plastic 2-piece clamshell kind. The halves bolt together with wingnuts.
I cut a 3/4" plywood partition wall to fit the crate's cross-section and screwed a wooden bar across it. This bar passed through the barred windows, securing the wall. As Al grew, we gradually moved the wall backwards.

My regular crate is fine for most of my corgis...but I recently bought the size up as when we travel they have more room to stretch out. Unfortunatly this doesn't work for 2 crates this size in my car so someone gets the smaller crate...but they don't seem to care they're just happy to going along! My old crate is 25X17 and the new one is 28X20...this gives them room to turn better!

Penny is too big for her crate now too and need to look for a new one...suppose I'll have the same trouble since they are about the same size.

I consulted with the breeder before we got Jack on what size crate, and she recommended about 30" long. Our is 30" by 21" and is perfect; you could give or take a couple inches in either direction. It came with a divider so when he was a puppy we just kept moving back the divider as he grew.

They are really fairly large dogs when full-grown.

I had the same problem as you, except I bought the smaller size and regret it. She is so much happier and does much better in my spaniels crate which is one size bigger. I think the extra room is good and she can stretch out. Imagine being uncomfortable for hours on end. I hope your crate is working out for you. I think you made the right decision. Rest easy!

From what I hear, breeders suggests that corgi's are the type of animals to reside in dens. The crate is perfect with regards to what the breeders say in my opinion, as long as they are comfy. :D
