rae...that's how we got Katie.  She was having her last litter...they only breed them twice in 4 years...and we just had to have her especially when we found out she was Max's niece.   They really go far and wide looking for sires for their litters.  Max's sire was from S Africa and Katie's was from England.

@sarah, that's awesome, and you can bring your own dog even if you don't compete? we wanted to hit up some corgi shows before we got machete, but last year ended up getting really sick the weekend it happened. and i always seem to miss out. i think we definitely need to check it out next year.

@linda: all of the heronsway corgis are amazing.  i love, love, loved machete's mama, star. she was so pretty and sweet. i think she got adopted right after the litter was weaned, or at least i know anne wasn't going to breed her again, and someone wanted her right away.

Sarah...I never got to meet Anne, I dealt with Karen thru Crystal Corgis.  She and Anne partner.  We got Max thru Karen as he was returned to his original breeder at age 5, the new wife didn't want him.  We were so impressed with his temperament that we contacted her about the possibility of adopting a dog that was being retired.  She had Katie who was having her last litter and we got to adopt her.  She is actually Max's niece thru one of his sisters.  Max is a fluffy so he was never shown or bred but Katie was, she's Heronsway Kiss Me Kate.  Both are wonderful dogs with great temperaments.  Now that I am retired someday I hope to be able to get a puppy thru them.  I have the time to devote to training and rearing a puppy.

Linda, yes, Anne was there and I went over to her and told her I knew Machete from mycorgi.  I think she was kind of amused by that.  Anne had a big win at the end of the show with one of her females going Best of Breed.  Love her corgis!  It was the best to be with all of those beautiful corgis.... and some of the top breeders.  Of course they were all pretty busy grooming and showing so there wasn't time for lots of questions - for me this was an introduction to the show world and getting a feel for what that is like.  Not something I could do with working full time at this point but it was great to watch.

Sarah....was Katen or Anne there from Heronsway?  Both my babies are Heronsway pups.

@Rae, I found out about the event from Susan Strickland of Honeyfox when we got Phoebe. I knew I wanted to see a corgi show and I wanted to see Susan again and show her Phoebe. There are corgi clubs in different areas and the Mayflower Club put on this specialty show which was all corgis. The Potomac Club has a corgi specialty show in Gettysburg, PA in April - that is Susan's club. The clubs have websites which tell of all their events - this show actually was 3 days but we could only get there for Friday. We missed the obedience and rally sections. We weren't the only people watching who weren't showing but most people were showing - there were about 91 corgis shown on Friday. Anne can tell you more than I can about show protocol - I was just trying to get a sense of what showing is all about and see some beautiful corgis :)

@Sarah, how do you find out about this event? Can anyone go or do you have to have a corgi competing?

We love Anne, she's the best.

Hi!  I mentioned to Anne that I knew Machete from mycorgi and thought he was beautiful - her response was that you both are lovely people!  It was soooo fun to be there with Phoebe and wander around trying to figure out what was going on - and talking with people that are so committed to corgis.  Breeders whose websites I have been watching, etc. and hanging out with Phoebe's breeder and her corgi buddies from the Philly region.  I would go again in a heartbeat!  It's happening again at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough around the same time next year.

Yup, I voted for him too.  I went to a corgi specialty show on Friday in Boxborough, MA and saw Machete's litter brothers - 2 of them.  Absolutely gorgeous - what beautiful faces this litter has and so similar.  It was beyond amazing to be with all of those corgis - my idea of heaven.  Really fun to see the rock stars of the corgi world too - the dogs and the breeders!
