machete's june barkbox arrived, and boy was he excited!!

i hadn't paid attention to the tracking on this one so much, so was a bit surprised to see it today because i swear we just got the shipment notice...

anyway, there were a lot of awesome things in this box, but i will say one mildly disappointing thing was no toy. everything was treat-based or consumable. i like when we get grooming items, and machete LOVES his barkbox toys. seriously, he loves them, so it's a bit of a bummer that everything from this box will be gone once it is eaten, or drank, or used up.

anyway, on to the box!

first up we have something that sadly we will not be keeping — but will be sharing with another dog so it's not a total loss. we got a butcher's block bones "the champ" from heartland premium. everything about it sounds nice, cows born & bred in omaha, all natural, etc. but we don't do bones. so...this will be a giveaway.

next up we have something AWESOME...touted as 'non-alcoholic beer for dogs' bowser beer is not actually anything like bear.  it's glucosamine-fortified beef broth (for joint health) in a nifty beer-style bottle for your dog! though i don't really agree with the serving size (1 whole bottle for medium/small dogs...without a calorie count?!) i think what i'm going to do is use it to make some frosty treats for machete as the weather turns warmer. a little of this in an ice cube tray, maybe with carrot chunks inside? YES!

Serving Suggestions:

  • Straight out of the bottle
  • Pour it over dry kibble
  • Flavor the water bowl
  • Pour over crushed ice for a cold, crunchy treat

also, i love that on the bowser beer site you can order your own custom labels for bowser beer. 'i don't give a shitzu brew" hah!

after that we have something machete tried right away and LOVED.

essentially, they're just dried sweet potato chips that can easily be made at home (we posted a thug kitchen recipe a while back), but there's a whole theme to this month's bark box, a very picnic summertime bbq relaxing theme...so we appreciate the cuteness of this. plus, machete thought they were delicious. he's definitely a fan.

(regarding the potato 'chip' bag, i think it's super cute and all, but we're moving these into another container because food bags kill)

so we have our beers, we have our potato chips, now we need some BURGERS! barkbox has you covered... ;)

behold, tail mix™ grilled sirloin burgers from whole life pet!  grain- and gluten-free, these freeze-dried dog treats are high in protein (100% beef sirloin) and can be crumbled over food or rehydrated with water to be more patty-like for those pets who have issues with crunchy treats (or if you want to break them down into smaller bits). definitely excited to try these out for machete.

after that we have some dale edgar calm k9 wafers...

i've never heard of these before, but with the anxiety that pets feel around the 4th of july holiday, i think it was prudent that barkbox send these out in the june box as prep.  now, machete is a super bold puppy, and very little bugs him in the way of noise or new surroundings or events, but i think these can be handy anyway.

plus, chock full of vitamins!

all in all, a pretty good box. oh and the info cards for this month were cool, too.

so...the focus of this box was primarily delicious noms for pets, basically. we would have liked to get a toy or something that will last a while longer, but i'm excited to try out these products. plus, i've been thinking about making some 'frosty paws' style treats for machete to beat the heat and for when we're outdoors (maybe at our next drive-in movie?) so the bowser beer came just in time.

well, that's it for june, can't wait for our next box!

Lulu loved the bones the best and second, the sirloin burgers.
We gave the beer to our older dog who has arthritis.

Hi we got our box as well and Lulu loved everything in it. Great idea freezing the "beer" Lulu loves ice cubes. The least favorite were the Calm K-9.

Thanks for the great review, this was our first box and we loved it.
