Murphys law dictates that anything that can possibly go wrong, will. And of course, it will always go wrong at the most awesome of times.

I have a extremely important doctors appointment tomorrow at 2:40 all the way up in seattle, off broadway. I need to be there an hour early, minimum, it will probably take an hour to get there, and I don't know how long it will last, or how long it will take to get home. And everything has been going wrong since I made that appointment on friday. I can't get a babysitter for leon (oh the joys of knowing absolutely no one), and the ride from hopelink that I had been valiantly trying to get ahold of all day, well, it didn't happen. The only time I was able to get through they told me that DSHS, who currently has my insurance, was still pending. Sooo I had to call DSHS and see what was up with that. The first lady I talked to was a real bitch to me, basically called me a liar and I had to ask her to transfer me to the kent office. The lady at the kent offices on the other hand was a complete 360. She was very nice and helpful to me, she told me it wasn't pending, it was active, and even tried to get ahold of hopelink for me. Didn't work, but she did fax my information and phone number hoping that they would call me back. They didn't. I spent 3 hours on the phone, on hold, before I was forced to hang up. Rideless, of course. And tomorrow is the same day that everyone is going to be gone for two weeks. I can get myself to and from the appointment just fine, using the bus, but I still have no one to watch leon. The one person who I had in mind seems to be getting more and more irritable about it as the plans get more and more screwed up. So I've just basically told him to forget it.

I have never left leon alone for more than a couple hours. I have no idea how long this is going to take since I'm now going to be using public transportation and don't know how long the appointment it's self will take.

I'm sure it's needless to say, but right now, I'm to the point of tears.

Relax and take a deep breath. Your working yourself into hysterics and that isn't good plus Leon will feel the anxiety and you'll cause him to be anxious. It's only for one day and he'll be fine. You need to take care of yourself first so you may give Leon the best. Good luck w/it all.

I remember the first time I went to work full time after Nala was home. It was a 35-40 min drive back and forth plus the whole shift. I went on a long walk with her (she was 5-6months), so she could get tired and go potty. Left a internet radio station on with soothing music (new age). Just a little bit of food, water her toys and her crate opened with a used t-shirt. I put everything in the kitchen, enclosed it with a baby gate. And left. The whole day, I couldn't stop thinking about her. I wish very hard that dogs could be trained to answer the phone and let me know how she was doing. When I came back, my shirt was ripped, the potty training papers were all over the kitchen (it looked like confetti), she ate the food, whatever the bed was made off was in the floor, but she looked so happy. And she hold it!! I took her potty out, and she did her business. I cleaned, and play with her. Next day I just left an area with the paper, and she went there. She didn't did a mess exept with her toys.

I am very sure Leon will be perfectly fine. But sometimes, we, the owners, need to take proper care of ourselves, so we can take care of our furkids. Think positive, you will see that things will get solved. I am pretty sure that after that long walk, Nala just went to sleep. The neighbors never complained about noises either. Corgis are very smart. Leon will surprise you. Take care. Let us know how it went if you can.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I also have left my buddy alone for 7-8 hours on occasion -- just kept him in a small, safe area with water, safe toys, and pee pads. He was always fine, I think he slept most of the time.

I wish I could take a cab, or get a kennel sitter, but both options are way too expensive, and I have way too little money. Any I get goes towards leon's vet bills when they come up. Flea medications, bordatella and whatever emergency may come up. He is my top priority 99% of the time. This is the 1% time when I can't put him ahead of everything else, which sucks. I want to be able to reschedual so bad but can't.

The one time I had to take a cab from seattle to kent with my roommate, it ended up costing me 50 dollars, 10 more than was in my wallet at the time. My roommate wasn't happy to have to pay the difference. The way I'm hoping it will work is I'll only have to take the bus there, and that the office will be able to get me a cab ride back home again. *crosses fingers* And I think we've found a babysitter, so I hope this works out with as few kinks as possible.

I think it will be alright, sometimes our pup ends up home alone for 7 hours and she's only 4.5 months! We crate her at night, but when its going to be a long day like that, we just confine her to a small area (we use our hallway) and make sure she has lots of water, bedding, and safe toys. Likely he'll sleep through most of it (and if you're really worried about his anxiety, maybe give him a sedative? I've never done that but don't think its uncommon).

Is there any kind of kennel or babysitter that you can call up??

I'm sorry to hear about this situation ... I don't know how long the metro takes from Kent to Seattle, but it took me about an hour or two to get from Bellevue to Southcenter (in Tukwila). Try using the trip planner to see how long it'll take. Maybe you could take a cab there and a bus back? It's expensive but if it's really important.. :( good luck!!
