Gosh, I'm glad all we have to cope with here is a little 118-degree heat and the occasional blinding, suffocating dust storm! Be safe...better to let the dawg shiver another night or two than risk both your lives on an icy road. If the shakes were life-threatening, you'd know it by now.
Say...uhm... There's no chance that the problem could be that the dog's cold, is there? Okay, i know...that's prob'ly stupid. But Cassie sleeps on top of the covers on my bed. At this time of year (I don't run the central heating -- beyond one's budget on Social Security), if I wake up in the middle of the night and stick my arm out from under the comforter to pet her, her fluffy coat is COLD. If Lola's fur is fairly short & smooth, could she possibly be getting chilled in the wee hours?
I know the weather has been really challenging. Hopefully it will let up soon.
All the advice about feeding is well and good, but I would not put off the Vet check.
