machete had a very busy, very active day yesterday. so, when his bark box arrived, he was basically passed the eff out and we didn't open it right away because this:

to perk him up, i opened the box and we found all sorts of awesome goodies! once the box was opened, all of a sudden this little corg was very "interested."

image

first up in this month's box were these Licks liquid vitamins for dogs, joint + heart variety.  machete's been taking skin & coat dynamo dog vitamins along with his fish oil & vitamin c supplements so these are a bit interesting. i have to work out the dosage, though; because it's 1 pkg. per 50 lbs. of dog and um...yeah, corgs are small.

next up was a giant rope toy from Multipet. as you can see, mr. stumpypants was super interested in this acquisition, and had to test it out immediately :p (also of note, machete looks so cute in his dino bandana from ItsyBitsyGatsby)

image image

we also got two different treats from EttaSays.  Duck jerky and duck chews...the jerky looks perfect for training. it's long and string-like but can break up into tiny tiny pieces. however, it.smells.HORRIBLE. oh god so awful, worse than the ramen-smelling kong dental treats...so obviously machete is a huge fan!  we hope the duck chew is safe for puppies, though barkbox is pretty reliable about those kinds of things.

next, something pretty awesome that i haven't seen in the pet stores before, groom mits from ABOgear!  i can't wait to try these out, because one thing machete has recently started doing is when we're out on walks and he finds something super gross his first reaction is to ROLL IN IT UGH!

the next thing we got, unfortunately we're not going to keep.  i'm trying to think of someone with a dog to give it to, and i'm sure i'll figure something out. we normally love barkworthies, and they have amazing products, but we are NOT giving machete any bones at all. stuffed or otherwise. obviously, judge for yourself what you decide to give to your dog, but we've seen too many recent dental issues and severe tooth damage with bones for dogs (and especially corgis) that this is one treat we're going to pass on. thankfully, our stumpy little mister has no idea, so he'll be none the wiser.

so far, bark box has been AMAZING and we've been super happy with everything we get. machete loves the toys and with the exception of last month's mouse toy, he still has EVERY barkbox toy, they've really lasted (notes: results not typical of every corgi, some destroy toys within mere moments).

i am definitely very happy that we got a barkbox subscription, and machete is as well!

We got the hemp bone, too.  Nice thing, that's apparently machine washable.

Thanks, rae! I think we'll do that. He could eat the Hurley rubber toy that came in this month's box if he really wanted.. One of sterling's teeth is hanging by a thread right now. It freaked me out when I noticed it, too! I had some special teething toys, but he just destroyed them. Luckily, he loves ice cubes and those are a lot cheaper. He has been carrying his new hemp squeaky bone around all day, so I'm pretty sure he likes it! At least we got that out of the small dog box.

@E.B. - if you contact barkbox you can change it during your subscription from small to medium.  small box really only worked for us the one month.  you don't have to go 6 full months with small if you don't want.

machete totally had a loose tooth today. kinda freaked me out, but he didn't seem to mind. got a couple more months of teething at least.

Sterling just got his first bark box yesterday! His uncle Asa bought him a 6 month subscription. We got different stuff in ours, though. I think he signed us up as a small dog. I suppose it's okay since he's still a puppy. We can change that if we decide to continue it after the 6 months. We got an orange hemp bone (his favorite), a Hurley rubber chew toy, some duck liver treats, blueberry pumpkin crunchy treats, and some teeth cleaning gel. He's losing his baby teeth right now, so we're waiting to use the gel. He just wanted to roll on the duck liver treats and wasn't real interested in the fruity ones. My parents border collies eat EVERYTHING, so if sterling continues to turn his nose at them, we'll just share with his cousins ;)

I didn't get my box yet and checked the app, and I don't think I'm getting a barkworthy bone :(

i wish barkbox had a better section of what's included in each box. the ipad app lets you know what's coming in your box exactly as soon as the month starts (just lie and say you opened it already :p) but not what's in all the boxes. i don't always have time to look for reviews and such, so...it would be nice if they had more product listings. kind of like birchbox did for people.

The mitt is ok, but usually, after the park or a muddy walk I wet a medium towel with warm water and give him a good rubdown to clean him, especially the belly.  So I will use the mitts but don't think I would buy any afterwards. Yep, he likes the rope too!  And where can we get the glow balls?

Comment by rae on April 20, 2013 at 10:33pm

How did the mitt work out? we haven't tried ours out yet.  The rope toy is a huge hit, but now I wish we had the glow in the dark balls, too!  We have not yet hit the crazy shedding with Machete yet, so far the cats are the monster furry ones.

Comment by Bogart the Cardigan on April 20, 2013 at 5:20pm

Machete always gets his box a few days before Bogart, so it is like a "preview" when you post. No complaints, except the cardboard box looked as if a bear had tried to eat it! I tried the mitt, interesting!  Also brushed with the furminator today, enough fur for all the birds in the neighborhood to have nice soft nesting material!

We get the Barkbox too, but the April one hasn't arrived yet. Nellie still has the mouse from last month but she's started to try and kill it slowly from the ears in. The bone and coconut toy are still intact but she's also tried to surgically open the bone for the stuffing, so I might either try and sew it up or my lazy self will just toss it eventually.
