Today has been a totally awesome and fabulous day! I am radiating happiness and haven't stopped smiling since early noon. :-)
My husband Ben and I, driven by our long-suffering best friend Sev, went on a 90 minute roadtrip out to the countryside to go see the litter of Border Collie puppies I've been interested in. And I am SO glad that I went. I got my puppy fix (they're the best drug!) and I really clicked with one of the two girls up for consideration. I have a feeling that Ace will have a sister at the start of October!
The pups had turned one month old today and three were fast asleep when we arrived. But two girls, luckily the ones I had been told would best suit my interests, were up and at 'em, nursing on Mom. The dam is a beautiful red girl from French working lines. She's a thoughtful, intelligent worker who takes her time on the sheep. Not impulsive, and not pushy. She welcomed us into petting and picking up her young girls.
The girl with whom I fell in love, Violet Collar (working name!), gave me a flurry of kisses on my neck and face when I first held her. Ace has NEVER kissed me to this day, so naturally my knees felt like giving out and my head was spinning from the sheer love I felt from this beautiful puppy. I was so pleased that one seemed to gravitate towards me right away! She was also very playful, sprightly, and a quick thinker. She didn't pause much for reflection - if she decided on something, it was done immediately with no hesitation. I like that. I'm looking solely for a performance dog, and Ace is the epitome of an "overthinker".
I'll share the video I made and some pictures of the girl who will probably be Ace's little sister in a month's time. :-) Please enjoy!

As you can see, her humans have set up a little agility/obstacle course to acquaint the little ones with new sounds, textures, heights, and smells! It's totally an awesome idea. :-)
Once the babies have received their first vaccines, they'll be off to go to a neighbourhood school for the afternoon to meet tons of kiddos. This girl is gonna be bombproof!

C'mon Beth, you know you want to! >:) Jimmer definitely looks all BC, in spite of her lack of tail. I didn't know that the bobtail gene was apparent in BCs, but then again, it makes sense since the shepherds so closely resemble (and at one point, were mixed with) one another.
I don't have a huge terrain, or a bunch of sheep, but I am lucky enough to have a job that lets me spend as much time with the dogs as possible and I'm hoping I can make being a trainer my career path. Ace doesn't suffer being alone in the house, but I know that he's at his happiest when he can spend time alongside another dog. This girl is half for me, half for him. :-)
I am so jealous! We just don't have the lifestyle for a border collie, but they are my favorite breed.
I found this one near me on Petfinder (rescue search site here in the States). Her profile says she an Australian Shepherd/ Border Collie mix, but I'll bet they said that because of the bobtail. She looks like a pure BC to me, and there are some bobtail border collies:

I have half a mind to go get her, but I can't handle three and I would need to win the lottery to have a border collie to begin with.
Those are awesome little puppies. Thanks for the update!
They are soooo precious! I WANT ONE TOO!
Congrats! She is adorable and looks like a total sweetheart. I can't wait to see pictures of her and Ace playing and getting along! (:
Those are beautiful puppies, and the mother is gorgeous! The pups definitely seem incredibly sweet! Enjoy your new puppy when you pick her up, and I'm jealous!! :)
