I took Lyla, and only Lyla, on a walk tonight. I think that is the first time she has ever gone on a walk without big brother Sky. She was so incredibly good too! It sounds a little sad, but I had no idea she had such great leash manners because Sky is a little more hyper on walks (a little more hyper EVERYWHERE) and so when he pulls, which is getting less frequent than it used to be, it pulls her too since they are hooked together on a splitter. I was so proud of my baby girl!

On a side note, when I took the dogs on their walk yesterday, a lady who was walking a Corgi across the street stopped to ask me about Lyla. Her Corgi was very, very pretty, but seemed to be running amok. She was on a flexi-leash though, which makes going crazy a little easier. The lady told me I had such well behaved dogs, which really is true, I just forget it sometimes because they're mine and I always think they can be better. I made a comment to her about how "it depends on the day" but secretly inside I was a proud momma!

Oh, that just made me laugh Beth because I snap and point too! And for as naughty as I tell everyone Sky is, he always goes RIGHT to where I pointed and sits like a good boy.

I had a similar experience yesterday. I put a slip lead on Maddie (that's what she was trained in, for her prior life as a show dog) and took her out alone. It's the first time I've walked her alone since we brought her home. I discovered that one-on-one, she'll walk absolutely anywhere you put her. She'll go ahead if you let her (and that's normally where she walks when we are all together), but if you put her by your side she'll stay there, and she will pivot and turn no matter how many direction changes you make with her. It was lovely, actually, and I was a bit embarrassed that I hadn't done it before! Then when you stop she stacks up square. I feel bad trying to teach her to sit instead of stack, since she's so good at it!

I understand what you mean about forgetting how good your dogs are. Honestly with Jack, if he's not perfect I feel he's not behaving as well as he could. Don't get me wrong, he gets tons of praise and very few scoldings, but I always note where he misbehaves. It's nice to get compliments. I was so proud at the vet's office when the vet commented on how well-trained my dog was! I've put so many hours into that dog, and I didn't really notice what a difference it makes til the first time I asked Maddie to move from here to there, or hop off the sofa, or back up when she was crowding me at the fridge.... and realized that dogs don't just do those things naturally! LOL. I'm so used to snapping my fingers and pointing and having Jack go to just that spot that I had forgotten how many years went into getting him to that point.

You deserve to be proud of your dogs; you worked hard to get them there!

Congrats! I have a neighbor with a corgi too that gets pulled along on his walks. One of our other neighbors asked me one day how I kept mine from pulling like Ernie does. I just said it depends on your priorities! Makes you proud doesn't it? It is nice on the rare occasion when they make us look good.
