We heve just come back from a few days away in our new motorhome which was really relaxing and good fun even with our cold weather!! My problem is Wilf, whilst he is happy enough when we are parked up but he is not happy traveling. He seems very nervous and cant seem to find a place to lie and stay, he is continually on the move (usually around by my husbands feet whilst he is trying to drive!!). I was wondering if anyone had had any similar experience and could offer any advice

Try crating him while you are driving.  Crating seems to make my female much more comfortable while on the road.  I believe that it gives them sense of security.....My two can get out of their harnesses....Particuarly my female.  ^,,^

Lorraine, along with the harness, try adding a bed, one that Wilf is familiar with, so he can "curl" up in a safe and comfy place. My Topaz is a bit "anxious" in the back of my SUV, and a pet bed works for her.

Soffie has always been a great traveler---from the moment we picked her up as a pup. Griffyn was the anxious one. At first both were crated in the car, and during one of our long road trips I was worried he would stand the entire way! Eventually, he gave in and went to sleep and the rest of the trip was easier. Now we have the car harness for both dogs, and they are adjusting to it very well. At first Griffyn would crowd his sister Soffie and almost be on top of her, but now he has learned to relax and sleep. I would buy the harness and give it a try.....it is so much safer than having a dog loose in the car.

They do make a body suit type of harness thing that they claim helps dogs w/anxiety. Don't know much about it. Also maybe putting him a travel crate. It'll be more like his den and he'll settle better.

I use a pet harness for Caleb in my truck. It attaches to the seatbelt, so he can move around, but not much. For some reason he feels more secure in it than out of it. The couple of time I've tossed him in without the harness he tries to climb in my lap and doesn't get settled. When Caleb is in his harness, however, he curls up and goes to sleep. Maybe a harness would help?
