Okay Romeo and i were walking at cunningham park and decided to head home. On our way home a white cat that was hidding under the bushes attacked ROMEO! That stupid white cat scratch Romeo's nose. He has a big red scar near his nose. I am VERY PISS. I rang the bell where the white cat was. The lady said it was their neihbors cat. I rang thir bell. They did not open the door. I left a message telling them what happen and to call me asap. What do i do? I washed his scratch with water and soap. Do i sue them? Their white violent cat shouldn't be out like that. After the cat scratch Romeo that cat was coming closer to us when i took a few steps back. UGH

That was very nice of the owner to call you and offer to pay for vet bills. I think you are doing the right thing in just keeping it clean and watching it. He'll be good as new in no time. :)

I'm glad to hear the cat's owner was kind and helpful. It sounds like the cat's been attacked by a dog a couple times and now acts offensively rather than waiting to see if the dog is mean or not. Give Romeo an extra cookie for all of us tonight! ;)

Romeo didn't even yelp or really scream. He just backed away. I guess he didn't know how to react. I washed it with antibacteria soap and put Neosprin. The cat owner called me and was very shock that his cat scratch Romeo. He said that never happen, and it was usually the other way around. He was willing to pay for the vet bill. But I am just going to keep a close look on Romeo. If it gets bad than I'll def take him to the vet. LOL and yes John Wolff i should def make Romeo into a pirate with his new scratch. ** I learned a new lesson today. Watch out for cats in a bush. And thank you all for your concerns and advise

Honestly I would call the vet, because as Bev says cat scratches have a very high rate of infection. Whenever I get a scratch I put antibiotic salve and a band-aid on it, and they still sometimes look a little scary. But you can't really do that on a dog's nose; he might need a shot of antibiotic.

The cat was just scared. My own has charged my dogs more than once. They do that. Many dogs will kill a cat given half a chance, and many cats react accordingly even to peaceful dogs. I agree it's unfortunate cats are still kept out, but they are. My family always kept all its pets inside, but we took in a stray male cat once and tried to convert him to an indoor cat and he was really impossible, so we neutered and vaccinated him and fed him and back out he went. I know someone here will say it's always possible to train them to stay in, but really it's very hard when they've spent the first year of their life outside. A lot of cats are more tame than domestic, and they revert to half-wild very quickly, so I wouldn't judge the neighbor too harshly.

Just in time for Halowe'en! Get him an eye patch and a cutlass.
Gwynnie got raked on the snout once -- by a corgi at a corgi party -- so she looked faintly piratical for a few months, but the scars are long gone.

so sorry about Romeo. He'll be okay, though. I certainly don't think it's anything worth even thinking about suing over. That's an overreaction. I would keep an eye on the wound to make sure Romeo doesn't catch something from the cat, as outdoor cats can carry a wide variety of diseased, including rabies.

And it should be fine. These things will happen. I've been clawed at by a cat before, and Oafie has been hissed at. As a couple of people have said already, the cat was probably scared.

I can't give advice on how to deal with the neighbors except not to be too confrontational. Cats are different than dogs, and keeping a cat outside is perfectly commonplace.

Cats generally do not like water. Take a spray bottle or water pistol back with you and spray the mess out of that cat if he comes within spraying range. Cats usually HATE HATE HATE water.......

oh poor Romeo! Keep an eye on the scratch because there is a high incidence of infection with cat scratches. It is unfortunate that cats are allowed loose still but they are so there is probably nothing to do. I doubt if confronting the neighbor will help. The cat was probably thinking it was protecting it's self. Cats can do a lot of damage but they usually get the worst of it. I keep mine in but they are also declawed. (I know people think it is cruel but they are rescues and came that way)

Ouch, poor Romeo. Our neighbors have two cats that are always outside. One will just run away when it sees us walking near it but the other is aggressive and will charge at Finnigan and hiss and it has swatted at him before, but luckily didn't scratch him. It sure scared him though. He let out a loud yelp and ducked behind our legs. Unfortunately there are a lot of outdoor cats and most cats don't like dogs. When I owned cats they were kept indoors. I don't think it's fare that cats can run free outside but dogs have to be kept on leashes so when you are following the rules and walking your dog on a leash somebody's cat can run up and attack your dog and that's ok! It makes me mad and if one of those cats ever hurt Finn I would would be at the neighbors door. I've seen dogs who were badly injured by cats, one German Shepherd even lost his vision. Now I'm always on guard when I go out and when I see he cat I stomp at it so it runs off, even then I will see it following us and sometimes when i finish walking Finn and get back to our apartment, it is sitting on our stairs! That thing is just begging for trouble.
