Hey~!
New to the site. Thought I might sign up so that my chances of finding that corgi-just-for-me would improve. I have to say trying to find a corgi is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, though it probably doesn't help that I'm short either. I've been on a corgi hunt for what seems forever now. I started looking way back in fall, getting into all sorts of information and location breeders and such.
I really would rather adopt a corgi or corgi mix seeing as I feel my money is better spent on those already in this world, than bringing another life into it. The problem is finding one. I see a lot of "corgi-mixes" out there and they tend to be the mix that never happened where the dog is still a full sized whatever mix. I'm looking for the dwarf trait for various reason and am hard stuck on a shepherds (family owns mostly shepherds).
If anyone has any info on any corgis (or even smaller shepherds) in upstate NY (albany area) or Hawaii (oahu) looking for homes PLEASE toss me a bone here. I've scoured the net and have yet to find anything suitable distance/age. Also looks aren't all that and a bag of chips for me, but I'd prefer a younger dog due to ability to train, life expectancy, etc.

There are several corgis and corgi mixes within about a 2 hour drive from you listed on petfinder, did you check those out?
These are just a couple that caught my eye:

Welcome, fellow Upstate New Yorker! I absolutely understand and empathize with your search! The breeders here in NY are few and far between, and so are the rescues, but I'm sure you'll find just what you're looking for! We're expecting our first corgi to arrive within the next week or so and we had to find her out of state.
If you're looking for any type of corgi, then there is a cardigan breeder near Albany that you might want to check out. She has a litter due in July so it's possible she might have a pup or two available. You may also want to check the PWCCA website and the Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club website for Pembroke breeders. There's also the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America.
There are lots of corgi mixes on Petfinder, though I'm not sure how far you're willing to drive. There's one up in Norwich, NY that I've been hoping will find a home. Her name is Jessie and she's such a pretty girl. I saw her when I was looking for my first pet around 2 1/2 years ago, but couldn't take her as I had a 1-year-old and wasn't sure how she would be around children. I still wish I could take her, but I once again have an infant and I'm not certain she would be a good fit at this time.
Good luck in your search! I know there's a corgi friend (or shepherd!) out there just waiting for you to find them! :)
Have you checked petfinder and pettango and rescues? Pet finder had 2 that I could see and I don't have a clue where you live or how far you would travel. also rescue had a young cardi that was Corgi Rescue of Eastern NY. I recently saw a shepard/corgi mix about the size of a corgi that was beautiful but she was in MO.
Good luck...you will find one and thanks for wanting to adopt:)
Hi Gabrielle and welcome! My daughter and I spent over three years searching for a corgi or corgi mix. First we found Bruce, a corgi mix (with Norwegian Elkhound, we think). He was 11 when we adopted him and so he's almost 17 now. He attached to me instead of my daughter, and we were smitten with the breed already, so we decided to keep searching for another corgi or corgi mix. We eventually found Sidney and it's been wonderful!
We found Bruce through petfinder.com, which has been a great resource. Have you tried it yet? While we were looking, I also had every humane society in my county bookmarked and I searched them every day. When I'd hear about a corgi in a shelter I'd rush over right away, but each time the corgi was adopted right before we got there! It was a long search but well worth it!
Also, search if there is a local meetup.com corgi group in your area. We ahve one for San Diego, and there have been several corgis come up that needed to be rehomed, where the owners used the site.
Keep in touch with the breeders, ask them to keep you in mind if they ever get a dog returned to them, or if they are keeping one to show that ends up not being show quality after all.
Good luck!
