Orion's ACL repair surgery was done yesterday afternoon after tearing it on sunday. He seems to be doing well, except perhaps a little jealous watching the free-roaming Laika and cat from his kennel :(

I was a terrible mom and thought that he was sedated enough not to need the e-collar last night but he pulled his stitches so I brought him in this morning and put a few staples in and the e-collar is definitely on alll the time now!

His surgery was done by 2 and I picked him up around 4:30 so here's him still looking quite sedated on the ride home:
Poor guy :( He was pretty whiny last night but is doing better now.
Starting him on fish oil and glucosamine and hopefully he'll have an easy and speedy recovery!

We're so relieved. Ricky-Rafa didn't need the ACL surgery after all. We bgt. him to the vet early yesterday and got a call a few hrs later from the vet. He said that R-R seems to have healed himself. He's walking, running well and showed no signs of pain and soreness when our vet rotated his leg and poked around. Yea Ricky and Dr. Grimes. Hope Orion and you are both holding up well. I couldn't imagine craaaazy Rafa post-op. He'd be AWFUL.

He's doing well, though he still wants to lick at the incision site. He's starting to get annoyed with taking his medicine and has gotten good at spitting it out, haha. Also the medication is causing him to not have an appetite so I have to bury shredded chicken jerky in it to get him to eat. Just hoping he doesn't damage the other knee hopping around on it. He's pretty fit and is a good weight so that will help

How's Orion doing today? And how are you doing? Wishing Orion a speedy and complete recovery.

I agree. You're not a bad mom. I took the cone off Ricky after he was neutered. He couldn't even drink water w/ it on. He was fine w/o it & we never put it back on. I'm not sure we'll be able to do the same after his ACL surgery, though. Did Orion have his ACL w/ laser?

Just have to say you're not a terrible mom--I also was a vet tech for 13 years and when I brought Brodie home from his neuter in March thought he wouldn't need the E collar. Had to make a trip at 2 am to the emergency clinic for staples. Apparently corgis don't like sutures!

There's a little dribble of dried blood that makes the incision look bigger than it is in the picture. I took him home the day of the surgery because my boyfriend and I are both vet techs at the clinic we had the surgery done so I took him home early. Normall they'll keep them overnight which is good because the first night was the worst, he cried most of it. Orion seems a little mopey and depressed now but he's doing okay. I'm trying to keep him from moving around too much, he still wants to hop around and be mobile with everyone else. Overall he's doing well

Just saw the photo of Orion post-surgery. OUCH. Quite an incision...How's he doing? How long is the recovery? Ricky-Rafa is scheduled for ACL surgery May 11. I can't imagine keeping him still during the post-op. How you both are faring well. I feel for you both!

He had the extracapsular repair (or lateral imbrication technique) so they put in two nylon sutures to replace the ligament and after clearing out the damaged part. The meniscus was torn so he performed a meniscal release as well. I'm trying to keep him still with as much cage rest as possible, he's already tried to go upstairs today. He walked up to towards them as I was taking him out to potty and was about to go for it and I was like "ORION! Don't you dare!" and he kind of whined and fallowed me, then went right back to his kennel, haha

Glad things went well.  What type of surgery did you go with?  I must say he looks MUCH happier than Seanna was after hers...give him a hug!  It will all be over soon!

Thanks for the well wishes!

I work as a vet tech at the clinic we had the surgery done (the specialist surgeon came in and did it in house) so I'm always telling owners to be sure to keep e collars on when they're not able to watch them and I went and did it myself haha
