One of the most FRIGHTENING nights of my life--almost...

So this actually has nothing to do with Juneaux, but I just have to blog what happened!

Well last night I was up pretty late, as usual. My son had already been in bed for a couple of hours, so I picked up a bit and sat down and got on mycorgi. I saw that Geri and Natalie were on, so I decided to chat. I was on maybe 20-30 minutes and I heard something hit the door. It didn't sound like a knock, but something had made a noise. My husband works late hours, so I was home alone:( When I heard another noise, I mentioned it while chatting and got up to turn on the outside lights in front.

When I was walking back to the sofa, I heard something scratch the wall. It sounded like a stretch of a few feet of...scatching, right. I was too weirded out to mention that while chatting--I didn't wanna hear "maybe its a ghost" or something, so I quietly sat down with the tv muted, and continued to chat. I kept glancing at the door, and then the computer. Then I heard another noise. This time I couldn't make out what I'd heard, but it sounded like it was coming from the guest room. Yikes!

At that point Geri and Natalie were logging off, and I figured I should call up my husband, and see when he was coming, so I too logged off. I sent him a text asking if he was on his way, and he said almost, so I mentioned the noises I was hearing, and told him to check out the room when he got home. I got up and grabbed a glass of water, and was gonna get ready for bed, when I heard something in the room again! OH CRAP! I froze! I couldn't figure what was going on! I slowly walked toward the room, and saw that the bedroom light was off, so I turned on the hall light--then it sounded like something fell in there!!! OMG! I was beginning to think someone had broken into the room, and was robbing us with the lights off I guess...I mean, right? I freaked! I grabbed my cell, a big knife, and locked myself up in the master bedroom with my son, and pushed the heaviest thing I could manage(a nightstand) against the door.

I called my husband in a total and complete panic. I was crying hysterically that he needed to come home NOW! and that I was sure someone was in the room. He told me he was on his way and asked if I'd heard glass shatter, or anything...and I hadn't. I couldn't even think, but I was pretty sure I hadn't. I then started to think..some of our windows are still boarded up from the hurricane in September (embarrassing I know, but he NEVER took them down, lol), so how could someone have gone in??? At that moment, I thought OMG a GHOST!!! I cried even more! Theres no way I would stay the night here with scratching sounds, and stuff falling over in the room--NO WAY!

He tells me he's home. So I press my ear against the wall to see if I can hear him, and I hear pounding on the wall. I immediately call him again, and he tells me the noise is him, to come out. So out I come, knife in hand, and with my eyes nearly swollen shut from crying, lips swollen I could barely speak, and I just start bawling!!! He holds me and tells me "Theres nothing in there". I run into the room--board is still up, everything untouched, nothing on the floor...everythings...fine. So I cry even more and tell him that I was POSITIVE that I was hearing things! 100%! So he calls in to work and assures them eveythings fine and we sit on the sofas. I'm still crying a little and telling him I'm not crazy, and that I have no idea what that was.

Theres about 5 minutes of total silence, he looks like he's ready to admit me, lol, and still nothing--absolutely nothing. I told him that I first heard the scratching on the wall when turned on the outside light, maybe he should go turn it off and on again. He got up and tried it...and then again...there it was, the scratching. My eyes bulged out, so did his. He quietly listens and then the noise got louder! :( and then nothing. I asked him if he thought there was something in the wall, and he couldnt figure what or how could've gotten in there. He sits back down and then we hear it again. SHEESH!

I went and sat there in front of the wall and waited for the noise. A few minutes later, we heard it again. I leaned in and sure enough, there was something in the wall! Better that than a thief in the room! We removed the socket cover on the wall, and shined in with a flash light, and there it was...a tail! My husband didn't believe me at first so we poked it with a skewer and it moved. He freaked out, lol! He's PETRIFIED of rodents, lol! So finally we knew what it was. With a closer look it was a small brown field mouse. Probably from the vacant lot across the street that had just been mowed. We figured it got inside the wall from one of those gaps in the grout they leave in the bottom bricks, so the house can "breath".

I won't bore you with anymore, but we were up till 7am this morning, trying to find a way to catch it and dispose of it, and we succeeded! What a relief!

When we woke up, we couldn't stop laughing at the fact that I sat on the bedroom floor, with a knife, and a nightstand against the door, CRYING my eyes out--and all because of a mouse!

Oh shame on you for scaring that poor little mouse out of its furry little mind.
Can you imagine how scary a corgi is to a mouse?

lol, i guess it would! i was telling my husband, and just imagine how it would have been with both dogs running around barking at all the noise! glad we "got rid" of the mouse, or i got rid of it actually.

lol, funny you mention the peanut butter--when we were trying to catch it, we'd already put a box against the wall and were hoping it would just chew its way out, which it did, and all of a sudden my husband starts talking about putting peanut butter, or cheese, or crackers, and i was like, its not a pet or something, lol! but yea, he was trying to "lure" it out quicker. hope this NEVER happens again, i'm not scared of mice, but i still don't want them in my walls! we were already scaring eachother, asking what if there was a nest of mice in the attic like ratatouille!

LOL, wow, you had me totally glued to your story, pictured it in my head. it was like watching a good mystery movie, sitting at the edge of your seat in a movie theatre just waiting for it to get revealed. It would make a great silly story to tell the kids and grandkids! Hehe, thanks for sharing.

omg I would be terrified if I were home alone and heard that! I would send my lab out after it... not that that would do much good! Good to know you are safe and FYI rodents LOVE peanutbutter if you need to catch them
