Hey everyone! You may remember that we did two classes at a trial in August and... it was pretty awful. I posted videos (they're on my youtube if you need entertainment).

Ok, well, I call a redo! We competed yesterday at a CPE trial.. all 5 classes. We had intended to go to the show-n-go the night before, but the car broke down 30 minutes away and we missed it. So, I was really nervous and figured that Tucker wouldn't cooperate at all. I was wrong! He had a great start line stay every class (this is a BIG deal for us) and let me catch him at the end (another big deal). Out of 5 classes, we qualified in the first and last one. We even won first place in our last class!

It was pouring down rain for most of the day. Tucker wasn't a big fan. It's hard to tell in the videos, but we're actually running in standing water. We had never practiced in rain before, so that was a challenge.

Our first class of the day was a game called Jackpot. You try to accumulate as many points as possible. When the whistle blows, you must cross to the opposite side of the field and do 3 obstacles (those first two jumps we did counted as a combo) and hit the table within 20 seconds. We qualified and got 2nd place (out of two dogs... haha).

Next was a Standard course. It's just a numbered course that you must follow. I walked the course and thought, "Oh this will be a breeze!" Didn't go as planned.. There was a lot of standing water in this ring and Tucker was really distracted. I need to stand up straight!! We did not qualify.

Our third class was a game called Colors. There are two nested courses and you pick the one you think will be best for your dog. I thought I could pull him off that tunnel in the beginning, but gave the command too late. It was really raining hard and he just shut down on me after that. We couldn't finish the course and received a no time.

Our fourth class was a game called Fullhouse. We had to accumulate a certain number of points and within those had to be at least 3 jumps, 2 tunnels or tire jumps, and 1 wide jump or A-frame. When the whistle blows you have 5 seconds to get on the table. My plan got off track after Tucker didn't go back up the A-frame.. and then on our way to the table he ran out of the course to greet a Corgi friend. I also think he didn't recognize the table because it was flat on the ground. We did not qualify.

Last was our best class of the day. It was called Wildcard. It was a numbered course but at 3 times during the course you had an option on what obstacle to take. You had to have 2 "A" and 1 "B". We had never practiced going back into the same obstacle before (like with the tunnel) so we wasted some time there. I also gave my side command too late (and realized it.. sorry for yelling), but Tucker recovered and was able to make the turn. Still, we won first in this class (out of 2 dogs). I was very proud of him!

Yea, Beth, you're right. I was running my mouth a lot. I got louder as the day went on. In class if something is in front of him, he does it.. but at the trial he kept blowing things off when I thought he was committed. I was really trying to sort of "muscle" him through everything.. didn't really realize I was talking the whole time, though. I think he just needs more experience in a strange environment. Something to work on! I'll add it to my ever growing list... haha

Not bad at all!  The experts make it look so easy, but having taken agility lessons off and on for the past few years I can attest to how tough it can be, especially with a dog so short you can't grab him if he starts to blow you off.  I'm all too familiar with the Corgi "Yay, we're working!!  Oooo, what's that smell?  What is over there?  Oh, are we working?  Ok, yayyy we're working" attitude!  lol.    You've got a nice foundation to build on.  My instructor made me run several courses totally silent and I was embarrassed by how much better my dog was.  Maybe something for you to try?   When we chatter at them all the time they tend to ignore us....
