Yesterday's play-date went great for the first half... I went out to Portland to see my best friend and her new beagle-lab-aussie shepherd pup. They're the same size, and immediately began wrestling and tumbling. Then she bit a gash under Eddy's eyeball! It bled into his eye, and he was squinting and wincing. We cleaned him up, but then they just kept wanting to go at each other's throats and soft spots!!! They were definately tense and resentful after the injury, and couldn't play nice any more. We had to end it early.

The other puppy is a month younger, but was very dominant and aggressive, always flipping Eddy onto his back and chomping all over his wittle belly and hugey ears. Eddy always just wants to chase and play fetch or tug-of-war, such a teddy bear, but this pup was all about the ATTACK!!! GROWL!!! game. Too bad. Hopefully they won't remember it the next time we play-date... My friend's afraid her pup has the taste of blood now! Hehe.

Boy, sorry to hear about Eddy's experience. I think your friend needs to work with her dog ASAP -- training and socializing to get a handle on what's up there. Puppies can sometimes bite too hard by accident, and that's how they learn to have "soft mouths" as they mature, and it sounds like your pal needs a little help with that! My Ethel, who is 17 months now, has twice "gotten into it" with other young pups, but both times it seemed to be over me -- she was essentially telling the other dog to back off of me. No blood, just a lot of flash and noise, but I immediately enrolled us in obedience class to learn more about how to deal with things like that.

So is Eddy ok? I hope so. Did you introduce them on netural ground, Ive heard that you should first introduce dogs on neutral ground so the dog whose house it is, doesnt get territorial. I didnt know that when I introduced my sisters pug and Lance for the first time either, they seemed to play rough but no one did get injured but I always wonder if that is why they played rough or if it was boys being boys. Hope Eddy is ok.
