My puppy, Lily, is now about 17 weeks old. When we got her at 9 weeks, she was only about 5 pounds. We started feeding her Blue Buffalo puppy food 3x a day, and now she weighs over 10 pounds. Sometimes she eats all 3 meals, but other days she only has 1 or 2. When should I start moving to 2 meals a day?

I would not recommend free feeding corgis, they will gain weight to fast. I had my Prince on Blue Buffalo pup, then switch to twice a day Fish and Sweet Potato, now they are on Weight Control Chicken and Brown Rice.

I think any day now should be ok to start her on a two time regular feeding schedule. Check the back of the bag for the recommended portion. Teach her that feeding is only at certain times, and you will see that she will clean her bowl. Like Krista says, exercise is a must. I am pretty sure that in there have been other posts related to food quantity, maybe you want to check them out too. Good luck.

I don't know that particular brand of dog food but there should be something on the bag somewhere that indicates the age/size range for that food and when you should move up or down in number of meals.

Domino ate two small bowls of food when she was around 4 months and younger. Then when we got her a bigger bowl we would just fill it about half way and she would munch when she wanted. We still have the same bowl and we fill it all the way in the and she munches when she wants. Some mornings she still has food left from the day before, other days she'll scarf a whole bowl down before 6pm.

I've asked the vet because sometimes she doesn't eat much at all and I wanted to make sure that wasn't a problem; he said that she's at a good weight for her size and as long as she gets exercise and she's behaving normal then not to worry.

I'm not sure of Lily's eating habits as far as if she wolfs things down or nibbles but I would just make sure that there is food available for her. If she eats a whole meal quickly don't put out food after a reasonable amount of time has passed. Also, if she's a scarfer make sure she's getting lots of exercise; you don't want her becoming a couch potato.

Good luck and congrats on your new family addition!
