I have noticed that when my puppy is sleeping his breathing is really short and quick, when he wakes up he is perfectly fine. Is this normal?

Here's a post from a website!

Yep, he's a baby, and babys of all species breathe faster than the adults. So let's figure out How fast he's breathing. It's easiest to do while he's sleeping. You'll need a watch with a second hand. Count the breaths for 15 seconds, and multiply by 4.... or 30 seconds and multiply by 2. That's the respirations per minute. The Merck Veterinary Manual, a standard vet's quick reference book gives the resting respiration rate for adult dogs as 18-34 breaths per minute. It's not unusual for a baby puppy to have twice that rate range, give or take a few. Your description of his activity and tolerance of activity sounds pretty normal for age, and if when you had the baby boy in for his first vet appointment at 8 weeks, the heart and lungs were normal, it's probably within normal range. I suggest that once you know the rate, you give the clinic a call and verify the rate with a vet or a vet tech (not just the receptionist, unless the receptionist is a vet tech).

As he grows, his resting heart rate will reduce, as will the breathing rate. Trying to count a baby dog's heart rate, using the pulse point inside the thigh or along the neck, is often difficult for the owner because it is quite fast, and few of us are used to trying to count aloud or silently at that speed for 15 seconds! It will probably be over 120 beats per minute at this age.

Yeah he seems perfectly fine and happy, I will probably mention it to the breeder just in case.

I've seen mine do this on occasion. Didi would do this when she was a puppy and Reagan still does. Baffles me, but they seem fine?

Alex does this too. I'm not sure if it's normal or not, but she doesnt seem affected by it. Maybe they are having a dream about running. I dont really know. But you arent alone
