Oliver, who will be 6 months on 12/9, has most recently been regressing in his potty training.  Twice in the past week, he has pooped and peed on the floor.  He usually alerts us by barking, running in circles, etc.  We even recently trained him to ring jingle bells on our front door which he only seems to do when frantic.  Up until this week, he has been very good and we have had few accidents, and if any, only pee.  Any insight or info would be appreciated.  We are frustrated corgi parents.

Jane,  I just reviewed my comment to you, Oliver has been attending day care since 1/3 so this is his 4th week there.

Hi Jane,  Good to hear from you again.  I also haven't been on here that often,  I have been so busy lately.  Oliver began doggy day care this week and he's a happy fellow!  He loves all his buddies there and we take him three days a week and he comes home exhausted!!!  Which in some ways, gives us a break!  He never had a problem with chewing but I have read in my Corgi books and other puppy training books, that when he starts chewing, to give him a toy right away to let him know that those are the only things appropriate to chew.  Oliver chewed once in a while when we first brought him  home and I bought that bitter spray which he loved to lick.  I just give him the same as you, toys and rawhide chews, which we call his "Chewy" and he trots off to find one,  He hasn't had any accidents since doggy day day care but I say this while knocking on wood!  LOL!.  How else is Beau doing?  Let me know how the obedience training goes!  Does Beau bark a lot?  Oliver has a bark fest with me all the way to doggy day care but sleeps like a baby when my husband picks him up!  I am the one who plays with him the most so even on his day care days, when I get  home, sometimes not until 7 or 8 plm,  we spend an hour playing fetch.  I'm going to try and post more pics this weekend!

Hi, It's Jane from MN -  and Beau.  I haven't been on the site for awhile.  It looks like you are having some potty trng. issues. It seems to me that Oliver was doing quite well much earlier than Beau. Beau hasn't had any accidents for at least 7 weeks. He doesn't really have any particular "sign" that he needs to go out, but he will go to the patio door and wait for me.  I do take him out rather frequently when I'm home but he will often go outside and not do anything.

I really wish I could stop the chewing though. How is Oliver doing in that respect? I did sign up Beau for a 10 week obedience training class that starts 2/13.  He is doing quite well except for the chewing. I don't think the class will help with that but I can at least talk to the instructor. I think it's just puppy behavior. He has no shortage of toys and rawhide.

I'd say too much freedom too soon most likely, I'd just take a step back and keep it consistent for a while. He's still very young.

Yeah, I agree it can be discouraging.  Yuki was a breeze to train so I've felt frustrated on more than 1 occasion with Ellie.  ;)  Whenever she regresses, though, I go back to restricting freedom more for a day or two and then she's right back on track.

It is always good to make sure there isn't an infection. However, Jen is right, puppies regress a little along the way. Think of it as with a child, they may be potty trained at 2 1/2 or 3 but frequently get engrossed in something and forgets about the potty. It can also become a habit so it helps to return to square one and go out with him frequently and be sure to praise the times when he does his business outside. Hang in there he will get better, he is still a baby.

Thanks Jen for your response.  I have heard it can take a full year and a half for them to get the whole potty thing down but just is a little discouraging nonetheless  when  you have already felt that you all have made progress.  Guess it is to be expected.  He is peeing usual, a lot!  LOL so I don't think he has an infection.  Oliver likes to make or leave his mark in the entire neighborhood and has been doing so since we brought him home at 8 weeks.  Guess I was mostly  shocked about the poop!  Nice to hear from you again!  Hope all is well with Yuki and Ellie!

It happens.  :/  Ellie is, for the most part, good about going outside and she's just turned 7 months old.  She doesn't have a good signal for it, unfortunately, but she will sit at the door or look at us a certain way that indicates she needs to go out.  Even at this age, she'll sometimes have a day or two where she seems to regress and pees or poops indoors.  I just see it as all being part of the process.  I've read lots of posts by other corgi owners saying that theirs, too, regressed and couldn't be fully trusted until 1-1.5 years old.

If he's peeing a lot, though, then it's possible he could have an infection and it would be worth your while to have him checked.
