I was inspired by Liz and Tag's beach adventures, and so on a sunny Sunday afternoon I loaded the car up with three teenagers and a very excited Welsh Corgi. I know he was excited because the whirlwind of fur that formed inside my car when we put the windows down was much bigger than usual.
Liz gave me great directions and we found the parking area with no problem, only 30 minutes drive from home. Being a native Southern Californian, I'm used to the beaches being packed, but even on a gorgeous day like it was, we found few people there. My sister met us there with her 2 little girls and her big English Mastiff, Titan.
The tide was still high when we arrived. We didn't intend to get our feet wet, and when a particularly aggressive wave raced after us, I braced for icy coldness. Surprisingly, it was pleasant, and later in the afternoon we actually welcomed the water. Well, us humans anyway. Sidney does not care for the big noisy salty stuff. However, he did love running up and down the shore chasing the shorebirds. He was also curious about the tidepools.
