Pepper has been afraid of inatimate objects as long as I can remember. Not terrified, but skittish. For example if I pick up a kleenex box and show it too him he runs. He is also apprehensive about coming in the back door like he thinks we are going to slam it on him! We got him from a wonderful family who bread their own female. I cannot imagine this dog had ANY trauma in his puppy life with them. The family's son actually wanted to keep him and was sad to give him up. Pepper has never had any trauma here with us, only loads of hugs, kisses and treats. Anyone else seen this in their corgi?

Oppy is scared of the weirdest things. Trash bags? Yep, afraid of those. Cardboard boxes? Yep, those too. He's so outgoing with some things and such a little cry baby when it comes to others.

Yes Susan, My Buffy was like that too. She loved doing the tunnel in agility once we got her to go through, she would do it over and over. She had too many health issues to compete but we just did it for fun. I think it helped her although she always was easily frightened.

My little Ethel is the same way. She came from a lovely breeder (same as her uncle Bertie) and was in a lively house with kids and puppies until I brought her home. She's always been wary of objects of all kinds, and loud noises make her leap. As you say -- not terrified, but skittish. I take the dogs everywhere with me, and they are well socialized, but she's just a nervous nelly, that's all there is to it. We're taking beginning agility as a way to bond, etc. I thought she'd be terrified of the tunnel and a-frame -- but the power of a good liver treat surpasses all, and she's doing really well. Although she does curl her lip at the fellow students, thinking they may come too close and steal her treats....

He was not necessarily traumatized. I think herding dogs in particular are susceptible to being a little neurotic. He might benefit from some things that will increase his confidence like obedience or agility.
