Last night I smelled a strong skunk smell. I wonder where it came from, we live in a suburb residential. I have never seen a skunk here in the 10 years here. I know from my teenage days that tomato juice will neutralize the smell. I also heard, but cannot remember what the other odor killer is, hydrogen peroxide and something else.

My sister who has skunk fancing Basenjis, also swears by the Peroxide method, and says degreaser dish soap is best and to leave solution on for 5 minutes. She uses baby shampoo for the face "hardest hit hardest to clean" also adds "don't forgat the ears" as Basenjis also have the radar ears! (I think Dad is in charge of the official deskunking) I've been lucky so far.

4 cups peroxide
1/4 baking soda
1 tsp. dish soap (joy) NO H2O

I've used the mixture and it did help but really worked to get it out of the carpet and the dog was a mixture we had gotten from a guy who deals w/those air purifiers w/the ozone. The company was called EcoQuest.

Nothing really gets rid of the smell...just keep them away from skunks any way you can.

My parents' dog got sprayed by a skunk once and they tried the tomato juice thing. All it really did was dye her fur red. :/ I'd go with the other mixture if your dog gets skunked.

1 qt 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1-2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid

I've never had to use the mixture and I hope I never have to! I know people who swear by this, though.
