Jasper went to the vet for his next round of puppy shots and his rabies vaccine. He was such a good boy so he got his favorite rawhide chew when he got home! He's 15.5 lbs at 15 weeks and the vet seemed surprised at how fast he's growing. She commented that she thinks his food (Blue Buffalo) has a high calorie count but isn't really familiar with it...does anyone know if this is true? She also noticed that one of his testicles hasn't descended into the scrotal sac yet and could cause problems when he's neutered but we're going to wait another month and see what happens with that. For flea/tick control she switched us from Advantix to Vectra so I've never tried it but we'll see how well it works. Anyone else use Vectra?

When I give Jasper his anti-flea stuff once a month I give him a really good bath right before, let him dry and then apply the flea stuff. Most of that kind of stuff is supposed to be water proof, but I would avoid rinsing him for a day or two after you apply it. You could also maybe use a wet rag and try to wipe him down if he gets dirty every day. That's what I do with Jasper, but mainly with his feet when he goes playing in the mud and dirt. It's hard to keep those little white puppy feet clean!

Shiro is not neutered yet, he's still only 13 weeks old. He eats Blue Buffalo also, about 3/4 a cup two times a day. I'm thinking it might be too much as he does not finish his meals. The breeder said we should feed him a cup twice a day though. He doesn't look fat to me, but he's definitely got heavier in a week.
In terms of anti aflea stuff... Do I need to reapply it after he gets a bath? He gets very dirty every time he plays with other puppies outside, so I give him a quick rinse almost every day. Does that weaken the antiflea stuff?

By "cause problems" I meant that the surgery would be more complicated and invasive. She said she could barely feel the right testicle, so I have my doubts that it will descend at this point. I'm not going to worry about it too much for another month or so and we'll see what happens. Has Shiro been neutered yet?

Thanks for the food/vectra advice! The vet keeps saying he's a little chunky, but I think he looks healthy...I can see his waist and feel his ribs so I'm gonna keep him on BB for a while. I think he's just a big boy!

I used Blue Buffalo for my cat until she got sick and had to go on prescription food (not because of the Blue Buffalo though!) I'm not familiar with the dog formula, but I know my cat was a great weight on it and now the Hill's Prescription diet is makeing her fat! =)

I just got a pack of Vectra for each of the dogs when I got Lyla. We usually use Frontline, but the day I brought her home I found a tick on her and couldn't wait the 24 hours until her vet opened, lol. We went to the animal hospital at petsmart and Vectra was all they had. I have been happy, haven't found a flea or tick on either of the dogs yet! Also, it repels mosquitos which is great because they can transfer heart worms.

It sounds like you are having fun with your new baby. Good luck!

We have the same testicle problem with Shiro. I'm not sure what your vet meant by "cause problems when he's neutered". When it happens both testicles have to be removed no matter where they are. The surgery is more complicated and will cost more. Did she tell you exacltly where the other testicle is? Is it deep inside or right under the surface? It makes a big difference in how complicated the surgery would be. Also, usually testicles have to come out by 12 weeks. If it didn't happen then the opening closes and they won't deccend anymore.
Maybe you should get a second opinion...
