Today we picked out our first Corgi.  I've named him Brian after being a long time fan of the Family Guy.  This will be my first small dog ever!  I am a stay at home mom to 2 gorgeous German Shepherds.  They've been wanting a small dog to call their own.

I've read many blog posts on food and other things, but I'm so overwhelmed with trying to find out about a breed that I know nothing about... other than I've always wanted one because they are cute.  SO...  after much research, most people suggest "Wellness" food.  Anyone here care to comment on it?  I've been feeding the Germans IAMs which I am reading is basically crap.  Now to figure them out also.

Today I've only picked Brian out.  We cannot pick him up for another 2 weeks.  At this point, what type of shots should he have?  And how many are in a series of shots?  Uggg!  Is there anyone that can help me with a few of these questions?

Thanks so much!  This is a great site!

Thank you so much!  I have confirmed flight plans and the money (ouch) has been wired.  This little guy is mine... like it or not :)   He's flying in on my mom's 65th birthday tomorrow.  Our birthday plans just had to be tweaked a bit.

Oh he is positively precious!  Congratulations (again!) on your new addition!  I'm so glad it worked out well for you.  I know it is costly, but that one-time "purchase" will provide you with years and years of joy and companionship!  I look forward to hearing lots of stories (and seeing lots of pictures!) about Brian the Dog.  :)

Here's the photo of the little guy...  who knew that the "hard job of picking one out" would be more difficult than originally thought.  I'm confident in my choice now...  breeder is great, lines are incredible... and the perfect color I was looking for.  Brian the Dog will arrive tomorrow!!!  Woohooo!

Well...  I found me a little guy today.  It's been a puppy I've been looking at for several weeks, but he was SO much more money than I was wanting to spend AND he lives in Missouri.  So, after reading all your comments, I decided that a dog that is "local" shouldn't be the most important factor when I really want a great Corgi puppy that is from a good breeder.  As soon as they tell me I can use their photos I will post some.  He is PERFECT!  I can almost see why this little guy is 3 times the money of the local one I looked at.  Some times you get what you pay for, eh?   And the little guy should get his "wings" tomorrow....  arriving here some time tomorrow evening.  Woohoo!

What do you all think about the cute, little guy?  He's not local so I have to go by photos...  but it appears that he'll have the "guy-liner" like I love so much on Corgis.

I'm so sorry things worked out this way, but you did the right thing. It's hard to walk away when you are attached, but better than dealing with an under-socialized puppy (who may also be sick). THe right pup will come your way. You are very wise to make this difficult choice.

Jane...  I would love that.  Unless her name is Sherry?  If so, I am already in contact with her :O)

Hi Stephanie, good things comes to those who wait, if you want to know how to find the right breeder, read the FAQ. Get to know the corgi breed and think twice about adding a 3rd to your pack, besides the financial factor, you may also want to think about handling 3, I can tell you it is totally a different ball game. The right dog will always be there waiting for you, don't make any rush decision.
