originally, 5 months ago, i was terribly interested in getting our first dog! billy and i already have 3 cats, so we thought we wouldnt be able to handle a puppy at this time while we are both in school still, and decided to wait until we were out of college. unfortunately, i could not contain myself and somehow talked him into getting our first corgi!
i searched FOREVER trying to look for a breeder, to look for a corgi, to look for the newest member of our family! i looked around for while, looking at shelters and rescues, but i honestly wasnt sure how the rescues worked and i also really really neededthat puppy phase! eventually, i found an ad for "pembroke welsh corgis", and contacted the seller. they had a litter due sometime in may, and the puppies would be available in july! this particular person did not believe in docking tails, so this puppy would have a tail and would not be registrable because the sire was not registered. this wasnt a problem for me anyways cause i didnt know much about dogs and "akc" and all those other lineage .. clubs or whatnot. after chatting with him (lets call him lawrence) for a while, billy and i put a deposit for a girl and we had second best pick!
after a while and alot of thinking, i was growing impatient.. and also felt a little insecure about the tail thing. in hindsight, that was probably the stupidest thought i could have had, but i did feel a little insecure about this puppy! eventually i was looking at the "reputable" breeders in so cal and calling each and everyone one of them, and by god, they were expensive little bundles! much more expensive then what lawrence was offering to me, maybe by two times as much! after alot of contemplation and thinking and discussing, we decided we were going to drop the deposit, and try to find another corgi! eventually, i stumbled upon emi's breeder in chowchilla! emi was already available and the price was right! she was GORGEOUS and ADORABLE and was ready to go home! lawrence's pups were not even born yet! being the completely impatient person i was, we ended up taking the 6 hour journey to go get her ! she. was. perfect.everything we could have ever wanted!
link one video footage of the first day we visited at the breeders kennels with all her corgis! beside the dam, dont know where she went o____o
link two video footage of me holding emi for the first time! excuse my awkward petting of emi, i didnt know how to pet dogs LOL
after taking her home, and talking to billy, we decided that we werent going to drop the deposit on lawrence's puppy; not quiet yet! we wanted to make sure we explored all options! we tried seeing if anyone else would want to take the deposit for us, or if anyone else wanted a corgi puppy but most of our friends couldnt! we decided at this point, that we would take this other puppy, even though the odds are against us! emi isnt even a year old yet, and this other puppy is a girl too! we are already going against two really strong odds but none the less, we dont want to give up without trying! having already paid for almost half of this puppy already, and also having second best pick, we really didnt want to lose the deposit and spot!
so as of now, lawrences litter was whelped may 5th, 2012 and are availabe june 28th! we are decided to take this other puppy and not dropping the deposit, because there are two of us after all, and we honestly think it would be better that only one of us train with one dog. we truly believe we would rather have a strong bond between one of us and one of the dogs, in case for what EVER reason billy and i decided to go our separate ways. the timing and gender may not be right, but we want to try really hard to make this work!
"lawrence's" sire and dam, lester and leah! this was 3 days before she gave birth!
anyways, thats the story of the "other" puppy! i did go visit lawrence's litter (as he actually lives pretty close to me!) and they look like little alien rats (I HAVE TO BE HONEST!) we will pick our girl around 6 weeks! we can only be hopeful and hope for the best! (:

How fun!! I've been itching to find another corgi to add to our family. Effie needs a play mate!!
EEP! so much feedback!!
Chris, Kadi & Brodie-
i am BEYOND excited to have a tailed corgi! i dont know what i was thinking at first, but now, the idea makes me much more excited since tailed corgis are indeed out of the norm (: anywho, i know exactly what you mean when you say that Kadi is your son's dog by her choosing, right now emi is indeed closer to billy, which is exactly the way i would want it if our tailed baby comes into the picture! it scares me a bit having my home become a zoo (which many people have made fun of me for) but i dont think i would have it any other way!!
Denise and Hannah and McKenzie
thank you guys for reading my blog post, i honestly did not think anyone would take their time to read ALL OF THAT!!
Teresa Gilpin-
thats amazing! i read somewhere (i think on this forum) that its not a good idea to get two puppies from the same litter, as well as saying you should wait till one is older and well trained before getting another, and also that female/female combinations are much harder to manage! im seriously so encouraged that you were able to make it work out just fine against all odds!
Jenny & Ramji-
SERIOUSLY! i already love emi soo much, but i dont want to share her!!! haha but in all honesty, it would be best that emi sticks with billy (the boyfriend) and also so i can have one of my own!! even though itll be alot of work, im seriously up for it! just like chris said, "corgis are like potato chips -- you cant have just one!"
CONGRATS!! im dying for a second~~~
We have two corgis. They are a brother and a sister, and we wouldn't have it any other way. They are now eight years old and they are the light of my life. Good luck with your two little girls. I know they will bring lots of love and laughter to you! (It may be a little work at first, as puppies they can be a handful). Congratulations and keep posting your stories and pictures!
Wonderful story!
You'll LOVE having one with a tail! LOL And corgis are like potato chips--you can't have just one! If you go back and read my history, you'll see that we got Kadi last August as a puppy and had no intention of getting a second one for quite some time. But that's just not how it works! Brodie (tail and all) showed up at our house in February with no ID and no intention of leaving. He is the best dog ever in my opinion now! Love my Kadi to pieces, but she is my son's dog (by her choosing) and Brodie is most definitely mine! We have a Boston too, so it becomes quite a circus around here sometimes, but it's great!
