since we got emi, we noticed that aggression with unfamiliar people seemed to be a problem. first night we got home, she was barking at her reflection, my cats, and barking back to the neighbors' (seemingly neglected) dogs. when outside for potty breaks, she would bark at all the cars that drove past as well as people and dogs!

the barking problem is no longer an issue, but we have definitely noticed she was unfriendly towards other dogs! we knew that socialization was very important, so we made sure to take her a lot of places and meet lots of new people! her first interaction with another dog was a neighbor on my street who was walking her two shitzus while emi was taking a potty break. she was very unfriendly towards them, kept barking, and really did not want to hang out with them! she kept running away from them and barking and growling! ): another instance, was when we were at my cousins barbecue, and one of my distant cousins had her maltipoo there, and of course being a well socialized dog, the maltipoo wanted to play with emi! but emi was not having ANY of that! kept barking and growling and avoiding the maltipoo all night!! ): the third instance where we realized her dog aggression was the first time she met "cereal". cereal is my best friends 9 week old golden retriever! his name is cereal, because she also has two cats named coco and puffs. so to complete the triology she named her puppy "cereal" to complete the "coco puffs cereal" triology!

we both decided to get dogs, and it would be fun (kinda like sisters or friends that pregnant around the same time? is that a bad analogy? LOL) and we could take them to dog parks and dog beaches and all these other places! which of course, was a bit depressing when i found out about emi's dog aggression!

the first time emi ever met cereal, we were only there for a short amount of time, maybe 20 minutes max! at the beginning they seemed to like each other, she didnt bark at him (which was surprising to say the least! after running away from cereal for a while, she snapped and did not want anything to do with him! she kept growling at him, in a very unfriendly unplayful manner, and then proceeded to hide under the couch from cereal T_____T

anyways, that was last week, and THIS week, jennie and i had a baking date, and i also decided to bring emi along to see if she would play with cereal, and HALLELUJAH! after a bit of hesitation, and skepticism, emi and cereal TOOK OFF! at first, jennie and i didnt know if they were fighting or playing (come on! we were originally cat ladies, and NEVER had dogs before). jennie lives in a gated community, so she already trusts cereal off leash, but since i live in a house on a busy street, i couldnt even THINK about letting emi off leash, i just cant trust her! she doesnt know "come" yet, and she is stubborn and wouldnt listen to me ANYWAYS -____- especially since were at a place we werent familiar with, i wasnt willing to allow her off leash, which means i was dragged along as they played, which was A-OK with me! they had such a fun time and she was exhausted afterwards! this was a tiny step forward, but it was a very important step! we came home, and we were very happy with emi (:

heres a picture spam of my favorite shots! (sorry for so many but i just couldnt help myself! :3 ) theres alot of pics but trussttt! they are completely worth it! (:

YAAAY!! thank you guys SO MUCH FOR THE ADVICE AND RESPONSES!!

i have been playing around looking for obedience classes and what not.. but there are just so many! so many different classes! i was looking around for "puppy kindergarden" classes and am not sure if i should just go to petco/petsmart.

it sounds like puppy classes are scary T______T but for my baby i will do it !!!!! if effie and mckenzie can do it, EMI CAN DO IT TOO !

thanks so much to you guys for all the feedback! it gives me hope !! T___T

I highly highly suggest a puppy manners/obedience class... Effie is insecure around new dogs, but the class has helped soooo much! At our first session, she hid under tables and chairs, and SCREAMED when one of the bigger pups came anywhere near her (have you ever heard a pup scream, bc I have) but now after 5 sessions, she's out and about and playing with the other puppies. Also, be taking her out ALOT, it is so crucial for your puppy to meet tons of people/dogs and even kids early on so she is well socialized! Good Luck!!

An obedience class will help her socialize with other dogs in a safer and controlled environment.

I agree with Snickmom. Emi's barking was because she was insecure. She's feeling more secure now, so it's 'safe' to play!

Snickmom-

i really hope so !! i had dreams and aspirations of the dog park!!! LOL

im hoping we can get over her fear or aggression, or WHATEVER this is! regardless, it was really important to me to see them like this <3 my heart is overwhelmed with happiness!

cuteness overload is right! The barking is more likely to be fear than aggression. Emi's happy time with Cereal will help her toward learning that other dogs can be fun.
