My husband always helps pick up after a Huey tornado rolls through our apt. We actually allow Huey 2 shred stuff, it's become a game for all of us, & he knows when we don't want him to do it so he stops @ our request. He is our little angel man!

Word of warning..my husband thought it was funny when they shredded the recycling he put on the floor so someone (me) could put it in the garage but then one of the dogs got a piece of mail that fell (hmm cats) off the counter and it was not as amusing.

I have one of those paper/box shredders at my house. But it is better than most things.  My guy doesn't differentiate items.  I sprayed fabrics and furniture and electrical cords with Bitter Apple and it is very effective.  The only problem is that paper and cardboard make such messes.

We turned the 'shredding' into a command. Winston had an affection for boxes...any box, full or empty. Now he 'asks' politely before destroying them by nudging them & looking at us in askance. The command is 'box' & he's taken down a refridgerator box in 15 minutes....into a bag of shreds.

Bugsy loves to tear up 12-pak cartons! When he still had his puppy teeth he punctured a can. And barked at the resulting spray. Also "daddy's" beer cartons. What is it with cardboard & paperboard?
