So when i first got Favorite and brought her home she was a spaz. I was ready for that and now after 14 mos with me she is one of the best behaved dogs i have ever met. I have been told by people that she would be a good therapy dog. I never paid much mind to that because i figured that it would be way to much work for us. with me working 40 hrs a week and planning a wedding and my sister just had a baby etc. Well last night i was reading online about therapy dogs and the steps it takes to get the dog certified... i was pleasantly surprised to find that i have been grooming her for this job from day one without even knowing it. Granted she needs more work she is still young and excitable but seing as far as she as come to this point i now realize it is just a little more practice and a few new skills to teach her and a little bit more exposure to some new environments and sounds and experiences and she will be a bonafide therapy dog. I would love nothing more then to share the pleasure i get from her with others. Like young children in the hospital or at the senior centers. With her tricks she would put on a great little show and she is just soooo loveable. So I hope that within 2 years from right now i can take her out to her first therapy session of many! Wish me luck everyone and Favorite too!
