these breeders are hard to get a hold of..

i've called 7 of them this morning. i left messages for 5 of them and spoke to one who had a receptionist who said they weren't planning on breeding any time soon. i also spoke to a breeder's crotchety husband. the conversation went like this:

"NO she's NOT here she's at a dog show in fort worth. she comes back monday."

well can you leaver her a message for me please?

"are you in houston?"

no i am not right now..

"it would be better if you just called monday or tuesday."

ok...

i'm guessing the breeder loves her dogs more than him and this is the source of his grumpiness.

i was so sure that if they didn't answer my emails, they would at least answer my phone calls! although i think a lot of the numbers i called were home telephone numbers so i'm guessing most people in the household are at work right now.

tell me more stories about how long it took you to get ahold of a breeder/get your corgi puppy. your stories make the struggle with these busy people easier! =)

i would also like to add this photo of my phone's contact list

and that's not even all of them.. sorry if this picture came out huge...

I teach so I also wanted to get a puppy this summer.I started with the breeder list of the Mayflower Corgi Club (New England) and the PWCCA list. It was frustrating at first. I wanted to find someone within driving distance and visit before getting the puppy. They also had to be reputable breeders who did genetic testing. The prices were intimidating at first $1200-2000 for pets. I sent 10 or 12 emails, and I think got  4 positive responses. I got onto the waiting lists for two breeders before getting Becca. One of those breeders had kept two puppies from last summers litter as prospects. She decided to keep the other, and offered me Becca. I did two phone interviews then drove 3 hours to meet Becca, picked her up the next weekend. (She has been here a week.) My search took about 8 weeks.

There were cheaper puppies available. One was from a "home raised" place that home raises, get this 23 breeds. There were also two litters from BYB. By getting Becca from a reputable performance/show breeder, I also got her breeder who will answer questions and be available when needed. I would try to be patient. Not easy I know. I debated between Becca or waiting for a 12 week old. I have to say she has been pretty damn near perfect so far.
