I just posted a video pf my yard. Nutmeg never destroyed the yard...until Superstar (love you Alondra) came over. Since Cinnamon has come into her own...my yard has taken such a beating! Now, I live in Florida...I am a novice in dealing with the sawgrass....however, my dogs would eat the grass forever. They NEVER puke it...they just dig it up and eat it. A neighbor said that they might be missing something from their food...a nutrient. They both eat Solid Gold all wholistic food. HELP MY YARD!

My Corgi just loves to eat grass. We've never figured out why. She has influenced our Old Dog to do the same (he's kind of senile, easy to influence.) All we've been able to do, and this is IMPORTANT, is to use no chemicals in the fenced back yard. I used to say "I'm raising children, not grass," about my lawn. I guess time just changes the kind of children we raise.

Olive loves eating grass too! She's fond of the St Augustine that's half dead from the Florida cold snap a few weeks ago. At first we scolded her for it, but it's pretty much a lost cause. She even eats while she does her business, lol. I'd heard they eat it if they have an upset stomach, but that could just be an old wives tail... haha!

Jacki,
Are they actually digging it up? Or just eating the grass...sounds pretty tasty as long as you don't use chemicals on it! It's not about running or wanting attention as I am sure you give them plenty...I really think they like it! If you could put a safe doggie away spray on it? Do not use vinegar as it will kill the grass.

If it was my goats I would fence them out of that area. How big is the area? Could you put up a temporary fence such as and exercise fence to keep them in a different area? I don't know if your whole lawn is out of this grass?

I'll keep thinking!

I don't think is a nutrient thing, mine would mess with the same Floridian grass if they're bored out of their mind, usually when i was working in the yard and they're stuck with me.

Jane, I consider you an expert...I am at a loss. These dogs are GOATS! Unless I am on top of them..they will clean out a 2 foot section in minutes. OK...I actually ATE what they are eating. It tastes like grass and lettuce. I run these 2 twice a day. They NEVER want for attention. Cinnamon comes to work with me every day, just like Nutmeg did until she was 7 months. Cinny is 4.5 months...Nutty is 16.5 months. It's the weekends when I want to be outside with them when they GRAZE!

Some of my dogs love grass and others don't...I think it's just a food preference! I remember years ago people would say "it's going to rain" when dogs ate grass! I don't believe this missing something!
