Thanks for the info. I went over to the rightpets site and put my two cents in regarding the Pembroke corgi, because many families would be blessed having one (or more) of these little guys in their lives!

I agree but they are also the homes that really are irresponsible to own any dog for that matter. I make sure I keep in contact w/my puppy buyers and advise on training. So far the majority of my pup owners have signed up for classes some where and still advise w/me. I am thrilled w/all the owners my pups have gone too.

I don't have nipping issues with my dog, either. Duncan has a stubborn streak, but I take care of that. But you read where a lot of the corgis that end up in shelters are because the person didn't look into their behavior. Those are the ones that never were given the proper training. Or homes have little ones, and they herd them when they are running, tripping or nipping at the children. Personally, I don't know why every home doesn't have one if not two corgis in their homes. But some people are just too irresponsible to own one.

I disagree...I don't have nipping issues or stubbornness...these guys are fun loving dogs that love to be part of the family. To each their own opinion but if the Corgi that sits in the shelter or rescue might never find a home if people are not made more aware of how wonderful this breed it.

I think corgis are the best dog for families; but some families are not the best for the corgi. Many are not prepared for the work it takes to keep such an intelligent breed happy. Face it, there are too many corgis in shelters, both the kill and no kill ones, because people couldn't resist those adorable faces "smiling" up at them. They were prepared for the herding, the nipping, and stubborness these dogs can exhibit. So, I can't honestly say I would want the corgis to be the Number 1 pet.
