Hi guys, Pooka has yet to encounter a south Texas summer and I'm worried about her getting too hot (at least she'll probably calm down and not want to play fetch as much =P) I've been wanting to make my own dog bed for her because they're so expensive and none have really stricken me in their fabric choice. She really liked just this big pillow her friend Aurora had, so I figure that would be simple enough. I can even make it to have a cover for easy washing.

In looking up beds, I came across the Cool Bed and it really struck me as something that might be useful down here in Texas. Has anybody on here used one and can you tell me how it went? I'm skeptical if she would even like it. We have hardwood floors, but she won't sleep on them too long without seeking out a more squishy (yet more hot) area. I think I'd get the medium (even though the small is probably big enough) just so it would stay cool longer.

Pooka should be fine inside with the AC. If they're outside (we live in SA too) they tend to find the shade spots. We're lucky to have trees nearby. We always have 2 bowls of fresh water outside and on the really hot days if we leave them out to go somewhere I pour a ton of ice in the water and on the ground for them to keep cool. As long as they have shade and water in the shade they should be ok. I've never heard of a cooling water bed though. Talk about one pampered pet! lol! Hey, there's nothing wrong with making sure your pet is safe and healthy. :)

We live in FL with carpet and tile floor, during the summer months, my dogs strategically sleep upside down under the air vents, they avoid their fluffy beds cause it makes them hot. Theoretically the water bed work some, but unless the insulation is very good and you change the cold water often, the water will soon heat up by the doggie's body.
