"What a Cute Yorkie!"

Well apparently, Shippo has been a yorkie all this time and never told me! I was walking him this afternoon and somebody's little dog (what looked to be some kind of malti-poo thing) got loose and ran across the street because he saw Shippo. I knelt down and let him sniff me while his owner ran across the street to get him (didn't grab him because I didn't wanna scare him).

When the guy got across the street, he went "Wow, what a cute yorkie!" I laughed and said "Oh, this guy's a corgi." The guy gave me a deer-in-the-headlights stare and said, "Is that like a yorkie?" I said "nah, a corgi is one of the dogs that herds sheep." He nodded hesitantly, but seemed to accept that as an answer, and said "Well whatever he is, he's pretty!" I thanked him and went along my way.

Wow, it's amazing how many people in this area don't even know what a "herding dog" is, much less a corgi. The guy seemed so confused when I said that corgis are herding dogs. Maybe he just looks too short to herd sheep.

So now, Shippo is a sheltie, a sheltie mix, a "mini lassie," a wiener dog, and a YORKIE! He's also a girl. Poor Shippo is SO confused! >@.@p style="text-align:left">

She's brindle, with a black mask, and has NO undercoat right now, so looks even LESS like a Yorkie. Corgwn look so mis-matched, it's easy to assume they're something else... but a YORKIE?! No way!

I do run into people who know about Corgi's but are confused because mine is small so they think she is a mix of something else. She always seems to get everyone's attention no matter what they think she is.

At least with Samantha maybe I won't get that comment. No telling what some people will think she is. Shippo is absolutely beautiful!!!

Comment by Amanda on May 18, 2009 at 7:59am: Lol. I think the weirdest one I've gotten so far is "Is that a jack russell?" I had to pause and gather my thought before I answered, but a yorkie? That's a pretty big jump. Maybe it's the long fluffy fur. Who knows. When Dax was a puppy he got really sick and I had to take him to the ER, the lady there says "is that a collie puppy" "it's a corgi puppy" "THAT'S a corgi?" "*disbelief* yes, a corgi!" and when they brought him out to me to come home everyone wanted to pet him (of course, who wouldn't), and the lady that brought him out announced him as their cutest patient. :)
