At 3.5 months old, Ollie learned to open my glove compartment where his 'cookies' used to be kept... one day I went in to pay for gas (of course, he, for once, was not seatbelted) and he was alone in the car for maybe 2-3 mins... I came back to him laying on his back in the front seat, grinning ear to ear, belly puffed up from having eaten an entire, brand new bag of beggin strips. He absolutely saw and seized his window of opportunity!
I now keep the treats in the trunk and Ollie is belted at all times. My lil knucklehead!
This dog has an iron stomach, the constitution of an ox.
This summer, I was taking a cooking gift basket to some friends of mine: crackers, cheese, salsas, wine...and 62% Scharffen Berger baking chocolate...The basket was in a plastic bag, I thought the smells were contained...that dog bypassed the cheese and ate half the bar! I freaked! I thought I needed to rush him to the doggie ER. He was fine, not even mild stomach discomfort.
Two summers ago, while locked up in the tackroom, he pulled a 10lb bag of horse treats off of a low shelf and ate the whole thing! Luckily they were nothing but oats, bran and molasses...he looked about 11 months pregnant, he could barely walk. He was fine, but he was pooping for days! I had to apologize to the owner of the cookie bag, which I replaced but that was probably a 3 month supply of horse cookies!!!
