Well we have had Penny for about 4 days now and needless to say she has been an absolute blast. Although she still has moments of fright from random noises and small hand size puppies she has shown enough bravery to not cower in the presence of larger dogs.

She gets along marvelously with the cat. The cat even taunts her at night just to get the dog to chase her. However, they are just as capable of sleeping in bed near one another. With our friends Penny has been a charmer. They all love her and even one or two had said they wouldn't mind having a Corgi now. She is very well behaved for a pup of 8 months with little training. She is a quick learner and even with my relative inexperience she has learned a few new behavior tricks.

Today we took her to the park in our town and let her play in the ocean water. She ran down the beach chasing the waves only to jump out of the way once the waves wear near crashing into her. Later on we decided to give her a bath and she was a bit scared to say the least. She cowered in the corner as we washed and shampooed her. But once it was all done she was more than willing to climb out of the tub and into my lap where we dried her off.

No soon as we let her go she was outside the door bouncing around and barking in a righteous joy. Thus far my only concern is that she is 8 months old and has a cataract in her right eye that has thus far not affected her vision. Also small pieces of her nose flesh have been falling up.

Good night and good luck!

Hi Kim, Adam and Penny, It is fun to read about Penny's (and yours) progress, it makes my heart sing to see that she is getting the love and attention that she so deserves. She is a classic Corgi in that she is almost smarter than her owners/masters and just seems to be waiting for us to catch on- every now and then I catch Cookie, my older Corgi, looking at me with an expression of great patience.
I wanted to share with you what my vet said when I asked about the condition of the skin on Penny's nose; she said that, just like humans, dogs have different skin types and that from my discription she didn't think that it was a symptom of any underlying condition but just dry skin. She said that some people put a dab of vaseline in their dogs noses to relieve the look of dry skin. Once I was satisfied that it wasn't in fact something to worry about I didn't bother mentioning what my vet had said to my dad because I knew he wouldn't/didn't think anything of it (he's had way more dogs than I have) and certainly wouldn't put vaseline on her nose. I am fairly certain that she would just lick it off-yuck. But, it did occur to me that maybe something like shea butter lotion or something non-petroleum would be a good option- there again, I'm pretty sure she'll end up eating whatever is on her nose. Hope this information assuages any worry about her nose (or, as I say, any underlying condition), It did for me.
Again, I'm so glad that you all are getting along well and everybody seems to be happy.
