How old to spay?

I have a 16 week old puppy named Olive. Our vet said that we could have her spayed any time after she is 5 months old. I was talking to Olive's breeder yesterday and she recommended that we wait until she is at least 8-9 months old. The breeder said that would allow her body to fill out and mature. She said that Corgis that are spayed too early tend to be longer legged and racier. She also said that Corgis generally don't go into heat until 9-12 months of age. What do you all think?? I'm busy calculating the distance between Lake O and Crooked River Ranch to see if I should drive to save $$ on the Linatone (we have 2, and enuf fur to knit a new corgi daily!)
