Sidney's training school held a Canine Olympics this week. We had lots of fun! Sidney and his girlfriend Maggie represented for the Corgwyn.

They had several events, including the hurdles, high jump, agility course, leash work, puppy push-ups and down-stay.

For certain events they were categorized by height; under 12", 12-18", 19-24" and over 25".

Sidney measured at 12", so he was the very shortest of his group. Nuts!

We did the hurdles first. He did great, didn't knock any over. We did it in 8 seconds, probably could have gone much faster if I hadn't been so slow!

Next we did leash work. They weighed a cup of water, filled to the brim. You had to walk a course around cones with the cup in your leash hand. with your dog in heel, you had to walk the course without spilling. We made it without spilling anything and came back for the finals. This time it was timed, Sidney got distracted and tugged the leash and we spilled a little. No medal here!

We tried high jump. He made it to the second level, not too bad for a pup who's had hip surgery!

Next we went on the agility course. He did all the stations right and we were pretty fast, but no match for those crazy Aussies!

Down-stay was tough. Usually Sidney does well at these kind of things. You put your dog in the down position and tell them to stay. Then the trainers walked through the group with "distractions"...remote control cars, plush toys on sticks that looked like a crazy squirrel doing somersaults, balloons, whistles, kibble cans...augh! Sid was doing alright until someone came around with a purple pig that made the most obnoxious honking sound. He was afraid of it! He broke his stay and went to hide behind me. We were out, but Maggie made it the full five minutes and won a prize. She was one of only about 5 dogs left!

Last was pushups. You tell your dog to sit, then down. One sit + down is a pushup, as many as you can do in 30 seconds. The catch? No hand signals and no treats, voice only! Sid did surprisingly well! He getting bored and decided "down" was better with him laying on his side. The crowd started laughing. Then he decided "down" was MUCH better on his back with all fours in the air. At this point I was cracking up and couldn't even get the commands out. Despite this, he did enough to score a bronze!

That's his prize...a ribbon (it says "Outstanding!") and treats!
