So whats the scoop with Wyatt wanting to roll in dookie. We will go outside and there is goose poop or pigeon poop and he will want to roll in it....its so funny...he rolls over and over...he looks like hes having a great time, but its gross.

Does anyone know anything about this behavior?

I believe I read somewhere it is their natural instincts. I guess they dont loose all their natural instincts from the wild!! I know Lance will do it every once in a while. I agree it is gross!
We just call this puppy parfum! Believe me, it can get worse. Henry has found things that have turned him green and I don't even want to think of the smell!
It's a corgi thing! No, just kidding. Twink does this too, she likes the horse poo and coyote poo and before I know it, she's found it and rubbed her neck in it. Think it has something to do with covering up her scent, a wild dog thing?? Anyway, lots of dogs do it, the grosser smelling the better :)
All dogs love this. We had a chow/retreiver for 12 years, God bless her, and she got so excited to roll in poo. Last week, I found my pup Bentley INSIDE my cats litter box, just going to town!
My moms old dog Princess, used to go in the litter box and eat poo, it was gross but funny at the same time.
Yes, it's a standard dog thing to do with scent as Proud mom to Twinky suggests. My Corgis Tiki (1.5 years) and Cruise (4.5 months) both do it. Last week I was walking Tiki and she laid down and rubbed in a spot on the sidewalk...under her was a dead frog...gross. This week both of them were rolling in the yard...I walked up to them and under them was a dead bird...gross again...but both of them seemd to be loving it.
It's an "interesting" smell to them and one they'd want to wear. It's like us and perfume/cologne. For more and, uh, definitely more qualified info, there's a great bit about it in "The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia McConnell. She's got a PhD in animal behavior studies, and the book's quite a fascinating read on exactly why dogs do the things they do. I highly recommend it!
Kitty Roca as one of my friends call it- Yuck. So glad Twinky isn't interested in the cat boxes, I'd be in a world of hurt.
I was crossing a busy road with Rosie when she decided to roll in a dead squirrel, right in the middle of a very busy intersection. I had to pick my stinky girl up to get across the road. Some of the drivers were laughing at me. Rosie loves anything stinky or gross; bird droppings, dead rabbits dead oppossums etc. She rolled in a dead oppossum once and it was so bad that I couldn't stand to give her a bath because I was getting the dry heaves. My husband had to wash her and we threw her collar away.
