The breed standards say this..
Color
The outer coat is to be of self colors in red, sable, fawn, black and tan with or without white markings. White is acceptable on legs, chest, neck (either in part or as a collar), muzzle, underparts and as a narrow blaze on head. Very Serious Faults: Whitelies--Body color white, with red or dark markings. Bluies--Colored portions of the coat have a distinct bluish or smoky cast. This coloring is associated with extremely light or blue eyes, liver or gray eye rims, nose and lip pigment. Mismarks--Self colors with any area of white on the back between withers and tail, on sides between elbows and back of hindquarters, or on ears. Black with white markings and no tan present.

I think of all the colors that red/white is the most common. Then sabled (which is red/white with some black hairs feathered in). Then Tri-colored (black/white) followed by black/tan and then finally the other rare colors (Blue Merle Pembroke/Albinos). The Blue and Albino (Whities) are not breed standard and are bad for showing, but they look amazing I think. Very different looking.

What would cheez-it be considered? a Sable, or will he lighten up with age to a red?

You know, I have no freaking idea. All his family (almost 100%) is red/white or Tri, no in-between colors but he has a black muzzle and only one paw is white. He is starting to get black-hairs in sort of a "wing" shape on his back so I am going to assume he is a Sabled Red/White. His black face has shown no sign of fading which is odd, and I searched all over for pics/info on a corgi with a black nose and found nothing.

I wonder what Grover would be. He has a little black on the tips of his ears and down the sides of his head, like sideburns or something. But the rest of him is a very deep red. Not sable at all. So, I wonder if his head would be considered sable and his body red and white. I haven't turned in his AKC registration form because it asked this question and I didn't know.

Our Kitty-girl was described to us as sable and white when I got her,had some dark hairs and tips,but,then over the monthes she has gotten red with white markings.Shes still very pretty as a red.

Red, sable, fawn, black and tan with or without white markings are all standard colors. From what I know, the only disqualificated colors are white. If the corgi is mostly white. They can have white only on their face (If it does not completely surround the eyes) and around their neck as a white mane or collar and the paws. On the body, the white should not extend past the elbows.

I'm pretty sure masks are acceptable as well. I think the masks look awesome. I think it is a wee bit difficult to tell if you have a sable pup or a red and white due to the fact as puppies they carry a gray coat. There might be a way to tell. OuO
