Yogi's 3 months and I've noticed that the hair on his back (from his neck down to his bum area) is of a different texture and color than the rest of his body. It looks like its expanding sideways towards his tummy. Someone told me thats his coat changing to its mature stage.
The only thing I have noticed that seems a little odd where few white strands among these darker new strands. He's suppose to be a little redder since he was one of the darker pups (more black hair) when he was born. I'm happy he's getting that redder coat, but Im wondering where the white strands come in. Anyone since this before??They're few and are randomly placed.

This is a normal change in coat for a young corgi. Random white hairs probably will blend in as the coat comes in. The color at birth changes drastically as they grow. Even the most experienced corgi breeders cant always tell if they will be reds or sables for a time. The picture I see shows me he will definitely be red. What a cute guy. Isnt it great fun watching them grow and change?
thanks sam. he's a cutey alright, but such a troublemaker! it's definately fun seeing him grow. his chubby frame is now sturdy and lean...and his coat is turning out to be a nice rich red. i'll miss the fuzzy puppy hair that made him look like a hamster :-)
My little guy has these "shiny-coarse" hairs from his ears down to his butt but his sides are still puppy fuzz! It looks like he layed on his bacj in a shallow pool of baby oil!
Chloe has a blotch of black/red hair right at her shoulder blades. She also has little black and red hairs on her behind and nub. Theres not much black to make her look like a tri. She is a light red all over her body except on the places told.
