So, about four weeks ago, just 3 days after I got Frank, he had severe diarrhea (like water) and started vomiting. After looking it up online I immediately rushed him over to the vet in fear that it was parvo. Thankfully the tests came back negative and they simply felt it was a bacterial infection and put him on some prescription food. As soon as he was done with that food, I put him back on the food the breeder had given me-- the diarrhea started back up. I switched his foods, and everything was fine-- solid poops and a healthy dog.

Well yesterday, after a day of being his hyper self running around and being a nut, he got diarrhea-- not too bad at first, but quickly got severe. Then the non-stop throwing up began.. I honestly lost count of how many times he vomited. I called the vet in a panic and after he threw up just water, I rushed him over there. They did all sorts of tests and injections but couldn't really pinpoint a cause for this behavior. He's at home and fine right now but my heart breaks and I'm an emotional wreck watching him go through this. Has anybody had similar behavior with their corgi or any suggestions or advice they can offer me? I would deeply appreciate it, thank you! <3

Did the vet mention testing for pancreatitis or blood sugar levels.   Could he be licking your floor or getting exposed to something in his enviroment?

So sorry you are having such problems.  Maybe ask you vet for a consult with your nearest Vet School!!! Sometimes new eyes on the test results can spot something else!  Keep us up to date on what is going on with him.....

She did test his blood sugar levels and they were well above normal, super healthy she said. Everything seemed to be fine with him which caused her to be just as stumped as me. He hasn't been exposed to anything new in his environment lately so I don't know. I'm going to do a thorough wash of everything though-- rather be safe than sorry, and just keep a closer eye on him than normal I guess. I live right by the MSU vet center, so that's actually a really good idea-- thanks! And I'll definitely keep everyone informed, thanks again for your help!

The same exact thing happened to me when I first brought home Skyler.  It didn't really start until about a month or so after I brought him home. The same thing happened where everything was fine and then just out of the blue had diarrhea and vomitted--he would even try to hide behind the couch to get sick!  The first time it happened I took him to the vet, they ran all the usual tests but found no real issues and prescribed him some medicine which seemed to help.

It then happened AGAIN about 2 weeks later and I immediately went straight to the vet, went through the same series of tests, and again really didn't find anything but did identify a parasite or something like that.  We got some pills again and that seem to clear things up.  For the rest of his puppyhood he was relatively healthy and no more problems.

I guess in short it sounds like you're doing the right thing by going to the vet and following whatever advice your doctor prescribes.  Some puppies are just a bit sicky, like kids sometimes just get sick and then after some medicine get better.  I never changed his food from what he was eating, which was Beneful Puppy and after these two bouts of illness Skyler was fine.  Some dogs do have sensitive stomachs but as usual you must switch their food over slowly over the course of a week or so.

Once Skyler reached adulthood he actually turned out to be one of those corgis with a sensitvie stomach.  For the almost the past year and a half he's been on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive stomach with no problems.  I hope everything works out and it sounds like you have a good and trusting relationship with your vet which is definitely important!  Good Luck!

Awe Frank was doing the same thing, he kept hiding under our side table and under my bed every time that he'd get sick, it killed me. This story sounds almost the same as what we've been going through, so I guess I'll just hope for the best! I'm glad everything turned out well with your Skyler, I'm sure it will for Frank as well, I'm just going to be a spaz in the process lol. He is doing much better today and has his huge appetite back so I'm thinking it's over (knock on wood). Thank you so much for all of your help!
Have they done a fecal on him? Like others have said, it could be a food allergy, but it could also be puppy antics. He may have eaten something he shouldn't have this second time around and that would cause serious GI upset. Also does he get any treats? If he has a food allergy, the treats may contain the ingredients he is allergic to. Science Diet I/D comes in both dry and wet so you can get it in either type. For sake of saving money I would also do as Jane suggested and after having him on the food for a few weeks/months start trying to re-introduce his old food back into it. This round of vomiting and diarrhea may have NOTHING to do with the old round. Good corgi mommy for bringing him into the vet! Better safe then sorry, especially with puppies. Keep up what you are doing and remember you can always ask your vet for advice as well.
Well they did a fecal the first time I was there, and they found some bacteria, but they didn't this past time. My family dog has a food allergy so I'm pretty familiar with it, and I don't really think that's what this is. I think he got into something that he wasn't supposed to like you had mentioned, because he is acting perfectly fine now that everything's out of his system. I will definitely follow your guys' advice of slowly reintroducing his old food. And I thank you so much for your help! Such a stressful thing watching your helpless puppy go through that.

We had something like Frank has experienced happen with Gromit when he was a pup.  Lots of barfing one night, the runs, etc.  Finally in the barf that looked to be just water I spotted some strands of fiber.  He'd eaten some of the white fuzz guts from a squeaky toy he'd demolished.  When those are wet they all but disappear.  He was better by morning but now when he  wrecks a squeaky the stuffing gets picked up immediately and mostly he has lost interest in squeaky toys.

I have long had this feeling that many of the random health issues our dogs have are related to their willingness to eat almost anything that is even vaguely edible or sometimes not edible.  When I pick up after Gromit in the back yard I'm frequently amazed by the visible contents of his poop.  Bits of rawhide are common and not long ago he got something, who knows what, wrapped in foil like Christmas candy, and his leavings in the back yard looked like a torpedo with a colorful, foil wrapped end!

Same here! I have found a nail and a staple in Frank's droppings before-- where he picked up those things, and without me seeing, I have no idea. I knew Corgi's were hungry little things and would eat anything, but I didn't realize that meant literally anything.

I honestly think that's what happened, is that he ate something he shouldn't have, because he's acting like nothing ever happened now. I just need to keep an even closer eye on him than normal and not let him chew on anything besides his toys because he seems to have a very sensitive stomach. Thanks for sharing and for all of your help!

Oh thank god he recovered from the parvo-- how scary! And I'm definitely going to take note of those medications. Thanks so much! Everyone has been so helpful.

It is so frustrating, I feel your pain. And I'm glad Charlie's better now! Frank has also fully recovered, thank god. And your analogy is not far off at all lol. Thanks again!
