My corgi is now 1 1/2 and has up until recently been as well behaved as any corgi can be. We introduced a new puppy (a German Short Hair) about four months ago. As the time has gone on Maggie(the corgi)'s behavior has started to become destructive and she has taken to peeing inside. the dogs get along well and we try hard to give them both equal attention. So why the change in her behavior?

From what I have recently learned of dog training, you should not be treating them equally. Maggy was there first and so she should get fed first, should get the best toys, etc. She should also get some time with you without the puppy. Our older dog has accidents every time we have brought a new dog into our lives and we have to do some re-house breaking. We consulted a dog trainer over an issue and he taught us to make the dogs see that we are the boss. They have to earn their dog food by doing a few sits and downs, are not allowed to go through a door first, only get attention when we initiate it, not when they ask and have to earn the attention by following a command or two. good luck!

Peeing is their way of saying I was here.  So she is letting the puppy know that she is the oldest and it is her house.  I agree with Snickmom.  Females may not mark like males do but they still do.  When I walk with Quin she will sometime squat and pee a tiny little drip after she has sniffed a spot and even if she has just peed for real. We walk in the middle of the desert so it has to be some critter she is letting know she was there ha ha
