Clinic Description
This clinic is an introduction to herding designed for both novice dogs and handlers. Previous experience is not necessary or required. The clinic will be broken into two parts. The first part will consist of a discussion about herding, followed by an instinct evaluation of the participant’s dogs. The second part is designed to provide a hands-on setting to understand and start to develop the partnership between dog and handler to move livestock in a safe and controlled manner. Between the1st and 2nd part of the clinic we will break for a potluck lunch.
Clinic starts at 9 AM and typically ends around 3PM. We will be working inside a enclosed arena however,depending on weather and/or level of dog/handler we may work outside in one of the larger fields. The stock is a mixture of Barbs, Barb crosses and other hair sheep. Stock is dog broke and very workable.
Please bring boots that provide good ankle support, clothes appropriate for the weather, and a dish to share for lunch. The weekend before the clinic I will send out confirmation notices with more information, however I will contact individuals immediately if an entry is sent in and the the clinic is full.
We do not provide refunds, however if we receive adequate notice that you will unable to attend, we will make every attempt to schedule you into one of our future clinics, if room allows.

Does anyone know at what age it would be appropriate to start a dog in herding? Does it make a difference?

What you might want to do first is basic training. Just to get started and to get socialized at first that would be a good start. After they show promise then you could look into advanced training. That is pretty picture of you baby.

Thanks, Steve! Tommy is only about 10 months old so I wasn't sure if something like this would be too much for him at such a young age!

Dino and Coco were alittle older than ten months when they were in basic. Another good tip is to google Zak George and look at his videos on youtube. He is an excellent trainor or is it trainer? He was working at ( of all places ) Petsmart when he trained Coco and Dino. Please post more pictures.

I've seen Zak before on TV! You actually had him as a trainer?? That's awesome!
Tommy has been through puppy, intermediate and advanced classes at Petsmart and just passed his Canine Good Citizen test last week :)

Yeah. He used to live close to me and at that point in time I think that he had three dogs. Venus, Mars and I cant think of the other one. He will spent as much time with you as you want and is very personable.
