I gave up on chew toys after wasting money on some they never touched, but now they are enjoying them again. So I bought several new ones. How do I get them started on them? They seem to like the regular nylabone and love the Hartz Chew N Clean. But aren't interested in the chocolate or other shape Nylabones. I have tried spreading yummy stuff on them. They just lick them clean and go back to the old ones.

You know how these little rascals are, they want cardboard or some other paper products.  Wrap them in cardboard and let them chew them out.  They will think that they discovered the new toy.

Beware of nylabones, they are notorious tooth breakers! I think you're better off with them not chewing on them. Franklin is a chewer not a gulper so I give him retriever rolls (he doesn't bite of chunks and swallow) and he will chew on one for days. I'll put peanut butter in any gaps to get him started on chewing them. Kong makes a chew bone that you can stuff and it is a hard rubber so it won't damage their teeth.

best I know are the boiled parboiled beef bones from the local boutique pet store.

Zaneys are fun.

You can stuff things (like a tennis ball) in old socks, but then the dog can get the idea that you socks are fair game.

John,  My boy loves an old waste basket and balls in socks.  We have a rescue that has been sick and about the only thing he can get her to do is tug and she will tug better on the ball in the sock.  I also let him have old cheap athletic type shoes. I keep my shoes where they belong.
