Has anybody used Himalayan dog chews? My friend gives them to her dog and says they last for weeks. Just wondering if anybody has tried them and if their dog likes them? How long do they last a corgi? I'm thinking of getting the 20-40 pound ones that are 6 inch long and 1 inch around:

I usually give Franklin retriever rolls and they used last him a week or more, but lately he has been on a major chewing kick and will chew an entire rawhide in one day if I don't take it away from him. I'd rather give him something that will last longer. The rawhides are cheap but I was just wanting to try something different that may do a little more to clean teeth since he doesn't get knuckle bones anymore.

Our guy goes through one in a couple days.  They lasted him a month when he was a puppy but now that he has all his adult teeth he works them down much faster.  But he really likes them so works at it constantly.  We have the best luck with the Bravo 12" bully sticks.  They are 10$ each but last him about 1.5 weeks but they are harder and about 2-3x as thick as the other brands I see sold.  The skinnier ones don't last long.

I'll have to try that brand. Franklin goes through the braided 6-7" bully sticks in about 15 minutes so its definitely not worth the cost. Maybe the Bravo ones will last longer. Bully sticks are so STINKY though I prefer not to have them around lol, but Frank looooooooooooves them.

These ones are not smelly.  I think the fact that they are baked not smoked may make a difference.

That's good to know...   I'll have to give that type a try as well.  I've had the same experience with the bully sticks that I've bought that Melissa has had...    My dog loves them and destroys them in no time... but I just find them incredibly nasty smelling!

Got it from the Bravo site why they are so much thicker... The Bravo ones are made from bulls instead of steers.

Our corgi loves the Himalayan chews.  A good size one (4-5 inches long) lasts her for approx. 3 hours if she powers through, but she'll usually stretch it out so that it lasts a whole day.  Which is way better than any of the other chews we've gotten her.  She loved her antler for about a week, but hasn't touched it in months.  I tried buying her another, but apparently she's "over" antlers.  She has shown renewed interest in cow hooves, but the Himalayn chews are her absolute favorite.  If anyone knows of a "cheap" place to buy them, please post it.  The cheapest place I've found is a local feed store, and they're still about $10 for two small chews (maybe 3 inches).

I ended up buying them just for a try. Amazon has them for a reasonable price (they were I belive about $7.50). I have Amazon Prime though so I get free shipping, I won't give hooves because they break teeth and I'm reluctant to try the antlers for the same reason. Franklin broke his tooth on a raw knuckle bone (which aren't suppsosed to break teeth) so I am a little nervous about trying anything that is really hard.

Baxter broke his tooth an antler. Do you think the Himalayan chews are softer than antlers? I wanted to buy some chews to try them out, but I'm worried he's just going to hurt his teeth more.

I'm not sure if they are softer or not. I do worry when they really get to chewing on them, but they have broken pieces of the chew, so far they haven't been able to break a piece of an antler. I will probably be taking the antlers away though because I don't want to risk it. The Himilayan chews are very hard though. I may just stick to retriever rolls because they won't break teeth and my dogs don't inhale them so no risk of obstruction.

I buy these for Sidney and he loves them. He has yet to finish one on his own, our lab/dane will steal it and finish it pretty fast. When SId gnaws on it al night he barely makes a dent.

We joined doggyloot.com where they have pretty regular deals on the himalayan chews, among other cool things. It's like Groupon just for dog stuff.

Franklin got his dog chew today. He has been gnawing on it for 1/2 hour with no noticable difference in the size of the chew! Yay! Kirby is convinced the chew is going to eat him, so his is sitting near his crate untouched. Maybe Franklin will get 2 chews since Kirby is being a goof about it.

I am glad someone asked this question.  I have also been tempted to give these to my corgis.  I am interested to hear what people think of them.
