HELP! Ideas?
Okay, so when we moved here, we were moving into a house with another male dog. He's is not neutered, and usually goes nuts over other dogs.
Well, he has started peeing and pooping in the house, and hubby's parents are NOT happy about it. I keep hearing "He's going to keep doing it as long as another dog is here."
This is not good:/ I mean, I don't imagine that they would ask me to rehome Ziggy, but I want them to not resent him being here either. Plus, I could be wrong. Doubt it, but don't want to be stupid and ignore the possibility.
What can I do to make their dog stop? Ziggy absolutely ignores him. Doesn't give him the time of day, will hardly even sniff him when Shadow is pushing himself in Ziggy's face, etc. AND Ziggy stays in our room almost the entire time he's in the house. He just lays on our bed, so it's like they never even see each other almost.
I guess that normally, Shadow is way worse, will walk around constantly marking everything, and it's only happened like twice since we've been here, but it shouldn't be happening at all, and I don't want to let this go on, if there's something I can do.
Shadow is ALWAYS trying to get at Ziggy, constantly pressing his nose onto him, when they do see each other, but again, Ziggy flat out ignores him. He doesn't even growl at him to back off anymore.
I can't get them to neuter him, it's outta the question, so any other ideas?

That's a tough predicament. I don't have any suggestions, as I'd assume he was going to keep doing it since he's not neutered. Can they get him one of those wraps that goes around his belly? At least then when he peed it'd be in the diaper and not on things in the house. I'd also assume that eventually he'll stop as his scent will be everywhere. Are they cleaning up the areas good? I use Nature's Miracle, it has enzymes in it that actually break down the urine so it doesn't stink anymore. I'm not sure what would be better--I've heard both ways--that eventually they'll stop since they've marked everything, and that they keep peeing if they continue to smell where they've peed before. I'd hate to see you have to give him up after everything you've gone through!

Luckily I am not those people's kid, so I have no trouble in asking the question, "How about you train your dog?". I know that they're taking you in and being grateful is obvious, but that dog of theirs sounds wild. To put the blame on your own very zen, and TRAINED dog, is pretty silly.
Keeping an intact male is only for people who are ready to clean up after their marking sprees. That's what happens when you leave the chestnuts in the oven. If they don't want to get his coin purse emptied, they'd better roll up their sleeves and start spraying that Nature's Miracle around. I'm afraid I have no real advice for this situation, except to hold your ground if ever they start pinning the blame on you.
Note: not every intact male spritzes his home with pee. Ace was intact up until a year old, and he never marked indoors. But on our walks, every lamppost was fair game. It's just a part of being a dude, I guess.

Is there any way you could offer to help and train the dog? I know you probably don't want to seem too know-it-all-ish, but if there was a nice way to offer to HELP train, I might try that. Other than that, that's all I can think of.

Hi Kymii,
Shadow is normal dog exercising normal dog behaviour when strangers move in to his home. Anytime when a home has new furniture, people or another dog, Shadow will need to figure out his new hirechy. It is frustrating for him and he will mark his territory to let the stranger's know that this is his house (normal).
Testicles are not the roots of all evil and are not the contribution to marking, scientific studies shows that by removing the testicles will only have 40% change in leg lifting behaviour, that's less than flipping a coin, if you will.
There is a proper way to introduce 2 dogs, read this.
In order to fix this situation, for the sake of Ziggy, you'll need to take initiative in training both, daily walk 60-90 mins, no sniffing / play time during this walk, search the forum, it's been discussed before. Nothing will change if no action is taken.
