Sick little man =(
My boyfriend and I have had Beckett, our 10 week old puppy, for just over a week now. One crazy week, but he makes us both so happy we overlook the nights of no sleeping and nipping at the heels quite easily, LOL.
When we brought Beckett home, the breeder gave us about a weeks worth of food, Solid Gold. So we have been feeding him that food from her until 2 days ago, when we went out to PETCO to purchase another bag of the same food and then started giving him that.
Starting yesterday late afternoon, Beckett has been having a serious case of the Runs the poor little guy. His disposition is great, still jumping around and playing just a constant going to the bathroom, at late last night a bit of blood in it. Were going to make an appointment to bring him asap to the vet, and in the meantime are giving him pedialite to help keep him hydrated.
Has anyone else had this before? Any other tips until we can get him to the vet?

Beckett has a pretty upset tummy, obviously. Their little systems are quite sensitive. One cannot just change food in midstream. I advise my clients to take about a week-week 1/2 to change over. First few days, 75% old food/25% new. Next few days 50/50. Next few days 75% new/25% old. And then completely change to the new food. It helps with the upset tummies, especially if one is changing from a less nutritious food to one that is all natural or organic. Hope Beckett feels better soon!

Petco has been in the news of selling bad, expired food. Check the bag!

Petco had an issue with one of their distribution centers. They had to clean it out; all the stuff in that area was trashed and the area disinfected. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the bad food got shipped before Petco found the problem. These thing happen. They shouldn't. But they do. If there's infestation in the food, bring it back and have your dog seen by the vet.

When I first got Dax, about a week after he came home, I woke up in the middle of the night to take him out and he had about 3 or 4 little puddles of diarrhea in his kennel. :( it smelled awful, and I called an emergency clinic, they told me that I would probably be okay to wait for the vet to open but if he starts vomiting then I need to bring him in. Right after that I took him outside where he proceeded to let out a couple more puddles (crying the whole time, poor guy) and then on the way back in, he threw up. I took him to the emergency clinic and they told me he had coccidia (great) and that since I only had him a week that he probably had it before I got him and the change of homes just brought up the symptoms. Unlucky for me I didnt know much about breeders and I couldnt find ANYONE in louisiana who bred PWCs, so I got him from a VERY irresponsible breeder who proceeded to tell me that it was my fault that he got it and none of the other puppies were sick so it must be my fault. *breath* anyway, after a bunch of cleaning, a night at the hospital, being late for work, and a $275 vet bill, he was all better. ...but I guess you really didnt need the whole story, I'd just say I'd definitely bring him in asap, because I believe parvo has the same symptoms. :(

I would venture to guess he has a parasite of some sort. Hookworms and roundworms both can cause a bloody stool. Coccidia can be difficult to manage as well. Time to go to the vet!

Aye I almost lost my little girl Eva to coccidia when we first got her. Was a very scary experience. I hope your boy feels better soon.

I hope Beckett is on the mend. It's so scary when they get sick as puppies because their systems are still developing. It doesn't help when they get sick at all at any age.
My Willis is just coming through yet another bout of, "I wonder what he ate this time". He gobbles up things while he's walking before we have a chance to see him. The breeder said he was born with a sensitive stomach so it's a continuous education to see what he reacts to and doesn't react to.
When Beckett's back to himself, maybe try him on some boiled chicken meat and as well, boiled rice will help bulk up his stools.
I strongly recommend pet insurance if possible, especially during the first year for Beckett. We weighed the cost of an unexpected humungous vet bill against the peace of mind of $35 per month and went for the $35 per month. And twice we had to bring Willis in to emergency during his first year and the insurance paid for most of it, so it more than proved itself a good call for us.

Triley also had Coccidia when we got him. It was terrifying to have him cry and poop out streams of bloody "liquid" poop, esp because he was so small. Our vet said that the blood is because his poor bowels were inflamed, he wasn't actually bleeding internally (which, of course, i figured he was because I always assume the worst). Anyway, with some meds that cleared right up.
Triley has always had a sensitive stomach though, so we keep a close watch on his food. Our vet gave us some canned "Science Diet" that is easy on his belly but also has enough nutrients in it, for the times when his regular food is causing issues. Maybe see if there is something similar that you could give your pup to help him get through the next couple of days.

Vet appointment is made..when we returned home last night we had some solid poo!! So the bf and I were very excited- kept him on the diet of Pedialyte and added a little food in there- wouldnt you know just 2 hours later it was back to the loose stool and traces of blood...so sad I thought he was doing so well!
I checked the date on the food and its still good-however I think we are going to take him off the solid gold and put him on the Blue Buffalo (I think its called) which was also reccomended by the breeder.
I have been checking the stool for worms-nothing that I can see however i did find a nice piece of grass in there yesterday....poor little guy. Ill keep you updated once we see the vet.

boil hamburger and cook some rice! it works everytime. just mix it really good and give him about 1/3 of a cup an hour til it stops! i know boiling the hamburger sounds horrible but i had the same problem with one of my other dogs. our vet told us to do that because everytime we bring her home from the kennel she has horrible runs!
