Looking for some advise or recommendations on bark collars.  My sister has 3 dogs that do occasionally bark, her NASTY neighbors who are not pet lovers at all have called the cops on her.  And now she has to figure out a way to stop them from barking.  One is 10 years old one is 5 years old and one is 1 year old.  She hates to use a bark collar but she doesnt know what else to do.  Has anyone had any luck with one and what brand etc.  Any advise would be appreciated.  She is so upset and I feel so bad for her, she sold her beautiful country home to buy the family home after my mother passed away and these NASTY neighbors are giving  her nothing but grief.

Oh, Beth, how can I break this to you? I say this out of love, of course. My beagle responded very well to a bark collar. I would say he was a super cool beagle with special powers, cuz he was, but the breeder's place was also quiet. He had sound activated sprinklers in his kennels. When we visited, the only dog who barked was a young one who hadn't worked it out yet. I guess beagles hate water more than they love noise :)

Lilliput, on the other hand, is another story :(

My Katie was having a barking problem indoors...my hubby's office is downstairs and it was very disruptive to him when he was on business calls.  After checking into different options, I found the Petsafe battery powered anti-bark device and within 2 days, she wasn't barking anymore (well hardly any more!)....I can't remember the exact name of it cause I loaned it out, but it worked incredibly well without hurting anyone.  After the couple days all I had to do was show it to her, then it was the "threat" of getting it out and now all I have to do is say quiet.  I did purchase it from Amazon tho as it was less expensive there (under $40 I believe) with free shipping...good luck with the stupid neighbors!

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and comments I have been relaying them to my sister.

Well, I have a shepherd who barks at everyone and everything.  I put his cloth muzzle on him and told him "NO" when he would bark.  After doing that twice, all it takes is me dangling it in front of him and saying, "do you wanna wear your muzzle?" and he stops.  I don't know if this would work for a corgi and I doubt anyone owns a muzzle for their corgi (since they are so friendly) but it might not be a bad idea to purchase one and give it a try!   I'm seriously thinking about getting one and trying it on my Ella.  When she sees something to bark at, she will continue grumbling about it for 20 minutes, even after the threat is gone!

Actually my sisters dogs are not Corgis, one happens to be a german shepherd and the other are 2 small maltese, Lasa mixes.

I would not recommend using a shock collar on a toy breed... Your sister may try controlling the Shepherd with a collar or with a soft muzzle as Cindy suggested  and only leaving one of the smaller dogs out with the Shepherd so they take turns being outside, working with a leash to correct the smaller dog's barking.  Kind of "divide and conquer".

Hello!

I have tried a number of different kinds of collars, and have found that I like the "spray" kind, rather than the shock kind. They are available from a number of sources (around $60-70); keep in mind to get an extra cannister of spray in order to refill the collar when it empties.

Overall, this is a very humane way to go - as well as a very effective way, as well. I bought mine on eBay, but you can look around to see what types of brands are available in your area.

(My collar has www.multivet-inter.com on the bottom, and the refill is the "scentless refill" from the maker of the same name. Good luck! :)

Hello Again,

I looked around and found the same type of collar I have; (the link I left on the other comment doesn't have any collars available. They all seem to say, "out of stock.")  So, here's a link to a collar just like the one I have, that doesn't cost as much as I originally thought. (It's been awhile since I purchased the collar for Lu.)

I just found the latest response to your discussion in my spam folder. Argh! How are your sister's dogs doing?
