I had a headache Wednesday evening, so my husband volunteered to exercise "my" dog. (we rib each other about each other's dogs) A little later he came in and said "I'm sorry, I broke your dog" , and here she comes, on 3 legs. Fortunately, I regularly read posts on MyCorgi and so knew that it wasn't a rush to the hospital injury. We took her to the vet today (Friday), and he gave her a shot and put her on an anti-inflammatory, which was exactly what I expected. We will go back in a week for x-rays if she isn't better. I am so glad I found this site!

Saturday morning: she was able to sploot! Still not putting weight on her foot, but I had to stop her from playing with the other dogs, so she is definitely feeling better. Thursday: she has been improving a little each day until now. She will lightly touch her foot down, but not put any weight on it. I am worried she did tear the CL. The vet called to check on her, and wants to give her another week on meds. I plan to intensify the healing thoughts I am sending at her.

Week two, we took her in for X-rays. She has a partially torn CL and will have to have surgery. :(.

Snicker's surgery appointment is 8/28/12. She is running and jumping on Jack and limping around at high speed. I learned that leash walks are ok- after all she is a lot less likely to hurt herself worse on a walk than she does in the house. Today 8/26, I took her to the nursery. who were having a dog day. she had her picture taken, for treats, and lots of people petted her, then we went to PetSmart for more pets and treats. I know the days after her surgery won't be fun, so I figured she deserved a nice day out.

Snicker's surgery went well, her vet was pleased that he saw no sign of arthritis. He said that this is the kind of CL surgery we like to see. She recovered quickly and was eating well (no surprise there!) Her first day home she was kind of out of it; today, she was quiet but alert. The surgeon says no stairs for 2 months. We live in a 2 story house, and she hates to be picked up. I brought her crate downstairs, and got her an inflatable "cone" which fits in the crate. Wish us luck

The little stinker figured out how to get to her stitches even with the puffy cone on yesterday, so I added the vet's plastic cone. It was soooo sad. She picked up a chew toy, got all settled, started to chew it and it fell over- she couldn't hold it in her paws. She got her stitches out today- YAY. The vet was super pleased, he said she has better range of motion and is putting more weight on it than he usually sees at this point. He has said several times "it helps that she is not a fat corgi- I see a lot of those."  No more cone, either. The physical therapy is just flexing her leg a few times each day, I don't have to go to the therapy place. I will be slowly increasing her walks, and we go back for a re-check in a month. If only I didn't have to keep her from playing. :(

9-23-12 her fur is starting to grow in, she doesn't look quite so much like a plucked turkey. She really wants to play; she started tugging on my jeans yesterday. We really have to watch her around her bud, Jack.

10/12/12 Snickers went for her checkup. She will put full weight on her leg when we go for walks, but often limps around the house, especially after a nap. The vet is very pleased with her progress and says she does not have to be restrained, can go up stairs, but still can't frap and wrestle. Not sure how I am supposed to keep her from playing if she has free run of the house and her pals. He said she can increase her fun by 20% per week, and expects her to be back to normal in about a month. She and I are both looking forward to being able to play fetch and tug. Finding time for walks is getting harder as the winter dark comes. At least we were lucky in the timing- therapy walks in the winter would have been a lot harder.

11/30/12 I'm not sure when the last time she limped was, but she is definitely all healed now. Glad to have that ordeal over!

8/27/14 And...almost exactly two years later, Snickers tears the other ACL. It happened a few weeks ago. Did the anti-inflammatorys and rest, then had the X-Ray to confirm today. Will probably have the surgery appointment in a week or so. Snickers is 7 1/2 years old now, but still healthy and active, so hopefully she will heal quickly. Then she will be indestructible!!

Hoping for a successful surgery today.  And a quick recovery

Aw, hope Snickers has a speedy recovery! Orion tore his right CrCL back in April and this week tore the left, I have an ortho consult soon to decide on TPLO or extracapsulary (he had the extracapsulary repair the first time and did well with it so I'm leaning towards that, especially since it's cheaper) so we're in the same position as you guys. Hope everything goes well; she'll be back on her feet in no time!

Aw, Snick! Good luck with the surgery! I missed the original post. I must say I found your husband's report that he broke your dog pretty funny! A sense of humor can really help when dealing with the trials life throws at us.
