Does anyone use a roomba robot vacuum to collect corgi fur?
With my two wonderful corgis I am constantly vacuuming trying to keep our hardwood floors clean. And I mean constantly. I'm wondering if anyone has tried a roomba to scoop up the extra fur, especially at this special time of year when they're loosing their entire undercoats. I'm afraid that the poor machine might make one trip around the room and roll over and play dead. Anybody have any first hand experience?

My son and his wife have a Roomba to help with their corgie Shelby. She loves it. They sent me a cute video of Shelby and Baby Jackson (year old) playing tag and chase with it..................... so funny!

We don't have a Roomba but our youngest, Maddie, does NOT at all like the broom, vacuum, mop, etc....Goes absolutely nuts at those types of things. Charges at them, snaps, bites, etc. We have to correct her and tell her "uh hu".

Yes, Silvia and I have roomba and it is WONDERFUL!!! we bought the old discovery series and schedule to run it everyday. It gets a full bucket everytime. We use the roomba once a day and the Dyson once a week. it helps a lot during shedding season.
Now within the last 2 years, we have bought 1 roomba and exchanged it under warrenty 3 times, what happen? the older style roomba was not designed to handle this much fur, and it died, if you clean the brush and and open the thing and clean the internal parts, you can extend the life. Another problematic thing about the roomba is the battery, if you don't use it everyday, it will shorten it's life, so make sure you do use it everyday. So do I recommend getting the old roomba? No. Get the new 500 series.
I have not bought the new 500 series, I will by the end of this month, irobot have redesign a brand new roomba that can deal with rugs, pets and other things, it is suppose to be a lot smarter, so if you can wait, i'll give you an update by thanksgiving :)
PS: My pups are used to the roomba now, vienna will actually will just keep sleeping and will not move for the roomba, she lets the roomba bump and buzz around her, she couldn't care less :)

Good information all around. Especially the part about the 500 series. I'll have to pass it along to Santa as I know my wife has been wondering if she's been good enough for him to get her a roomba for Christmas.
Zed sheds a lot. Even with the furminator cutting down on the fur babies we still have to sweep and vacuum a couple of times a week. I think it'd be great to be able to turn something on and let it go clean while I'm gone.

Great information--thank you so much. Costco has the new 550 in the warehouse and online. The online price is $289 including shipping so it's not cheap. I wanted some input from people who know how much fur we're talking about before I bought one. I think I'm going to try it, I also like the idea of something else doing the cleanup. I'll let you know how it works for us. I am planning on entertaining the fur kids at the park during the initial trial phase then letting them see it once I know it works--they both feel obligated to protect me when the Dyson comes out so it will be interesting to see how they respond to something that just moves around on its own.
I also use the Furminator, Charlie loves any grooming tool (just as long as there lots and lots of tummy rubs while grooming) but Annie seems a little sensitive to it, she prefer a very soft brush that takes out very few of the fur tufts, so I use both in combination on my sensitive little "Princess". Actually my vet has given her another knick name--at his office she's known as the Drama Queen.

I can't get ANY vacuum to work on Ein's fluff. Even the shop vac can't handle it without getting clogged.

If you're trying to get the fluff out of a carpet try the purple Dyson--I believe it's called the "Animal" and it does the job really, really well. The first time I used mine I was a little embarrassed, I had no idea how much fur and dirt was lingering in the rugs. It's an upright. I've had mine for about a year and a half and it's sucking up the fur just as well now as it did the day I brought it home. I'm just tired of dragging it around the house so much that's why I'm going to try the roomba.

I've used one with pretty good success. I can say this much though, while they are cool and a great supplement to regular vacuum for hair, it definitely doesn't do a deep vacuum like a regular machine does. So it's great for a mid-week de-furring but keep your regular one as well is my advice.
We found that one charge can do one room pretty well in one go, but after that and it needs a recharge and needs its little collection cubby emptied, especially with corgis :)
Our dogs were much less interested in it or freaked out by it than I would have thought. After day one they were like, oh, that old thing.

My mom has 4 cats & a corgi and she uses the robots for her tile & carpet. She loves them. Dingo ignores the robots actually but he HATES the real vaccuum. As soon as you turn that thing on he goes into ATTACK mode. Brooms too.... I think he must like being dirty!
