My one year old Corgi has been limping in her rear left leg after resting since Columbus Day. I took her to the vet and had an x-ray done. They thought it was going to be luxating patella, but the x-ray showed very good hips, and no knee trouble. They checked the ligaments and tendons, no issues there  either. Their diagnosis is a growth spurt.

Has anyone ever heard of lameness from a grwoth spurt?  She is still limping after rest, not getting worse, but not improving either.

Thank you!

My big dog who was a mutt had this from growing too fast. Corgis are like large dogs in how they grow and develop. Its called panosteitis. It can occur in one leg and shift to a different leg and may continue until the dog reaches full maturity. Sometimes all you can do is feed a low protein food or a large breed puppy food to slow the growth and give anti-inflammatories to help with the pain. They will eventually grow out of it. Being a corgi, it may also be a soft tissue injury. Franklin had an un-diagnosed injury in his right hind leg and it went on for at least a year, the vets thought it was probably soft tissue since all the xrays came back normal. I started giving him fish oil and glucosamine/chondrotin and he hasn't limped since. It was so bad he would sometimes be three legged lame after a fetch session. May be worth putting him on some fish oil because it is a natural anti-inflammatory supplement.

Hi there, I am having a similar issue with Milly although we are pretty certain when she hurt or re-aggravated her leg. All the tests came back inconclusive and her vet though she had a partial acl tear. However, I kept her on restricted activity for a couple of months (as much as possible with these guys) and started adding fish oil and glucosamine/chondrotin and she is much better. We can tell when she has had too much because she starts limping again and gets a few days rest. I'm not sure if that would be the case with a puppy though.

My George developed a front leg limp at about a year old, he's seven now. he came from a puppy mill, his bone structure is poor...but he's a Corgi and loves to run, catch frisbees and go for loooong hikes. As a puppy i resisted the urge to "run" him in order to let his body mature. It was hard because he just wanted to run and run. Well what has resulted over time is I have gone with what works within his comfort zone...if he wanted to run/walk/chase frisbee it was up to him..i monitored for excess and over time he worked thru it..i think he's always going to have issues. he doesn't go on the big hikes with his brother.he gets in his walks albeit supplemented with alternating glucosamine and bufferd asprin. I guess my point is give it time and balance age appropriate excercise with age appropriate rest.
